re reaction to pink, I don't think it's his favorite color. Something was mentioned about it during coversation at Bespoked. Hi has his own reasons and I respect them.
On the other note, I'm jealous and happy for you at the same time, it's going to be a very special bike.
Imagine something between b'jammimns and my builds of a same frame in pink, with 1 1/8 steerer/stem, brakes, and frame build for you, amazing!
Keep it coming!!By the way, mine ended up being build with nearly full (apart 1" CK black sotto voce) Dura Ace, but it had black low flange Phil Wood and black 75's on it at some point, all got moved to my Brooklyn now.

Thanks folks.
^ CR said he'll work it into the overall costs so going to run with that. Apparently CK headsets are the only ones they use unless otherwise specified so the price shouldn't be bad.
Cheers for the dibs though Apollo, much appreciated.
It was nice to watch how he logically thought sbout the whole build and how his thought processes ran. He picked out things that now seem obvious but at the time were forgotten or not necessarily appropriate.
He did a rough calculation and the BB height came out as 28.5cm so pretty spot on. he did say it shouldn't be an issue though with 165 cranks. The headtube will sit at approx 73.5degrees so toe overlap shouldn't be a problem either with a 40 rake fork. It can always be replaced with 35 degree if I need/want something closer and twitchier!
Dr P, can you rmember what the issue was? Need to go and select the appropriate RAL in the next week or so. Your build sounds awesome, I'd love full DA but it's bit of an issue finding it in black. I did have a massive dilemma regarding hubs (PW vs Mack) but eventually went for Macks as I can get a custom colour scheme etc.. Should be here by August sometimes apparently.
Shall keep you all posted folks and cheers! T -

No prepared to carry on the custom theme and head to your local platers/anodizers?

Hey, away abroad for a while now so apologies to all those I've not emailed.
Cheers Sanddancer, black DA's did cross my mind but gave up on them quite quickly unfortunately. The real deal ones made by SHimano are rarer than hen's teeth. I've seen one hub for sale in the past few years and never the cranks (even though they do exist) so I think waiting for them will be a futile exercise (no matter how sweet they look!).. Having them anodised would possibly work but then the stickers/printing on them would be wrong or absent so I don't think I could handle that (yup, OCD strikes..). Hence custom Macks and S75's going to be the way!
Just deciding on what components to go for and no matter what awesome carbon fibre ness I see I keep on drifting back to Thomson for seatpost and stem.. I think they offer best looks (for this build) and also longevity and reliability. In the USA atm so may see if I can source a layback Masterpiece at a lower price :)
No word from Chas or Mack as of yet but the days are yet young. Any thoughts then let me know and cheers yet again. T -

It's not too complicated with dust caps / logos. There's a chap in Japan who used to (maybe still does) modify DA hubs by peeling of that plastic ring, hair dryer is good to warm it up first, when scrapped of the black on the back, and painted any color he or customer wanted, like this :
Black hubs and pink dust caps? It's up to you now...
I'm tempted to do one side yellow on mine.
On the other side, I have seen a black DA Easton seatpost, and I regret I didn't buy it. Keeping in mind stories about them, Thomson would serve you much longer.

On the other side, I have seen a black DA Easton seatpost, and I regret I didn't buy it...Honestly they're not very good. The name is the only thing which gives it value. Which is strange when you look at the quality and ATD of the old da aero seatposts.

I heard it from few people now, there are some issues with them.
I still have a silver version on my bike at the moment, and can't say there's anything wrong with it, for now. -

^ yeah, unfortunately. They would've been sweet though.
So the goodies I have accumulated are:Thomson Masterpiece layback seatpost
SG75's black
Easton EA90 40cm track dropsAll new and just gasping to get on :)!
Not heard from Chas or Mack so I hope all is progressing well.... -

Sooooo, updates at last!
Mr R has welded the frame, just waiting for the panto'd fork crown to come through and then sort the forks before paint.. I have chosen a colour and think it should look pretty sweet.. A mix of pearl and matt so we'll see :)
Mack has got back to me that the hubs are finished so I've asked him to send some pics before I cough up the rest of the cash but hopefully that'll be on track soon. Thinking I'll take them to Brixton Cycles to be laced...?
So before all that arrives I thought I'd share a few bits that I've hoarded in these 4 long months of waiting! All parts are new/NOS/as new and many thanks to everyone from the forum who've helped me out! Enjoy..

Pedals I'll be keeping from my old bike.. Going to run my current chainring/cog and see how that works for me.. Also thinking of running my Nitto stem/risers for a bit :)

porn on paper.
what you wrapping those bars with? -
• #92
Not sure mate.. May keep them as they are because the grips are actually gritted. Think James put some Soyo grips or similar on them..

^^edited.
I'm such a muppet
another noob question.. why ceramic rims if you're running brakeless?
-
• #94
Haha no worries. I actually didn't realise they were like that until I held them. Bought them on a whim so I'll see if I go with them or risers..
The f&f is drilled if I want to run it SS in Scotland (damn hills) or later life when my knees go. Went for ceramics coz they can be braked on and don't have MSW's so look good when brakeless too ;) -
• #95
good point! forgot the f/f was drilled....
gonna be so nice man, I guess you don't want to share what colour the pearl/matt mix will be yet... I'm on the edge of my seat!
-
• #96
I would but I have to see what it looks like first before I get flamed and need to colour it in permanent marker ;)! Pics will be up asap, reallyreallyreally hoping I have it next week sometimes! Need to sort out a cycle or something too at some point I thinks..
-
• #97
Bring it on! It's gonna be a long week for you :)
That's a great bit of hoarding, can't fault your skills there, and Mr Roberts will obviously deliver, so we're in for a winner here...... -
• #98
Thanks mate, I hope so too. Just really paranoid about the fit because I've been expecting it for so long and also the overall cost! We'll see soon enough I guess ;)

So the hubs have arrived today :) at last! They definitely look and feel the part and craftsmanship looks amazing tbh.. Obviously the proof will be revealed once a few miles are put on them but atm I really can't fault them.. Great quality and looks for a low price (relatively..).
I now have a problem. I've been wanting to lace them to Open Pro CD's (original ones) but they're a dark grey.. All components will be black on the bike and also some detailing so I just can't decide whether these rims will work.. Any ideas/suggestions?
The only other rims that I can find that would fall into my category are the HPlus Archetypes in black (I want an MSW but that's coloured so it doesn't stand out..)..
Time to ponder on it!!
