Kewl, cheers. Any punctures and what's it like in the wet?
-
• #128
Fark that wheelset is gnarly.
-
• #129
I've only just fitted it, grip in the wet is good, rolls fast and smooth, and I fitted it after being advised it is good on the puncture protection front.

^^Ha, yeah it kinda went that way when I initially bought the CD's. They're 36h so had to have the hubs made that way obv. Therefore I had to stick with the hole count when I changed my decision w the rim. Saying that they're going to be super solid and of course 36h is what NJS riders use so it's bound to be tough!
^cheers mate, let me know how they pan out then. I asked for 25c max clearance on the forks so I'll wait till they arrive and see what fits before I buy the final tyre but yours def sounds like a good contender..

36h 2 cross?
Surely 32h 3 cross would have been lighter and stronger, or 28h if you want 2 cross still with good spoke angles?
-
• #132
Even I used 32 holes on a touring bicycle, but then again, least you know it'll stay strong.

Why use a layback post on a custom bike?
There's another one on the first page too.
Yeah, mine. Layback = the same as every other seatpost that isn't inline. It's not to do with reach but about putting my arse in the most comfortable position relative to the BB.
Those wheels are fucking gorgeous.

^^ From what I understand 3 cross puts the spokes at a good angle on a 36h wheel. 2 cross... not so much. If your not using a brake on it this doesn't matter and (like you say Ed) 36h is going to be pretty strong with whatever pattern.

I always thought that laybacks had a lot more of an offset than a std non-inline post.
I have a Cannondale layback on my Pompino which I'm using (or at least thought I was) to stretch the bike out a little as I bought a smaller frame than I should have (intentionally, for stand over etc).
So I kinda thought layback = stretch the toptube out and so, why would you need to do that on a custom frame. But really it's a positioning thing and no more extreme or 'making do' than a non inline post.

exactly, hence why your meta post was met with the response it received

Mm all interesting stuff, thanks folks. Guess I'll see how they stand up to daily use, I can always have them respoked if necessary.

^ def agreed :)!
Managed to get a half day, well worth it. They're just pressing the HS today so should be all ready to rock.
I asked if i could get the geo/spec sheet and apparently one doesn't really exist. CR designs and plans it in his head then jots down a few numbers etc and passes it onto the builders.. Old school or what! -
• #146
Haha, awesome! You gonna build this up yourself then?

God, this better live up to expectations.. Both for my sake and everybody else's!
Yeah I've got everything to put her together bar a headset press hence why CR are doing it for me. Hoping to build her tomorrow eve (unless I'm too drunk celebrating!) and take her out for a maiden cycle this weekend, weather permitting.. -
