the track bike that's not allowed to touch the road?

Rotating weight on a weight weenie bike vs punctures is a no brainer from me.
But I obviously don't feel as strongly about the below as you.I know what I'd choose, but I hate punctures :)

^^HH carpark counts, right?

Does Ian know how to change an inner tube?
I'm guessing that if he gets a puncture, there will be another 50 page thread on it, discussing patches, glue, what pattern to use when scuffing (or even if scuffing is appropriate) the surface and so on, and then we can all mock as the bike remains unridden yet.
I would imagine that Scoble would be a big contributor to that thread.

Nope, not used them myself, agree tyre experience is hugely subjective for many reasons.
It is hugely subjective.
I have a really thin and light 290g tyres that I used for a 3,000km tour, while my companion have a Marathon (not the Plus).
He have four puncture, whether I have three within 40km of Casablanca.
It wasn't because his tyres is weaker than mine, it was merely because he simply got caught out.

The Ultremo ZX weigh 190g (slightly lighter than the claimed weight of 195) and apparently have decent puncture protection. That's the sort of tyre I'd be thinking about. They're meant to roll well too.
Ordered these and supersonic butyl inners -

What colour?
-
• #2384
Some colour are heavier than other Iain, I hope you choose wisely.
-
• #2385
pink

240g then for each tyre+tube, that's pretty good. Lighter than my tubs.
-
• #2387
Drill them too - that will save loads of weight.

Although apparently they've upped the puncture resistance and dropped the weight of them now, http://www.probikekit.com/uk/continental-competition-19-chili-compound-tubular-road-tyre.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=google_base_gbp&gclid=CPbI2774-LICFeTLtAodZDEABQ
EDIT 236g each on the PBK scales.
EDIT #2 actually that was the 19mm, my 22mm ones are still ~270g, http://www.probikekit.com/uk/tyres-tubes/continental-competition-22-chili-compound-tubular-road-tyre.html

Just in time for the Catford Hill Climb on Sunday, good luck Iain

i can imagine iain with the bike strapped to his back climbing up the hill, at least it will save it from being ridden
-
• #2392
He'd still find something to crash into

Some colour are heavier than other Iain, I hope you choose wisely.

Get the ultremos.
I love the way they ride, and thats from a fussy git, that currently commutes on Veloflex's with latex inners.
If you are considering carbon clinchers. Look into the pressures you should be running with an online calc. If your rear tyre needs a million PSI. It might be wise to move up to a 25mm tyre.

• #2397
What's this about pressures on carbon clinchers? Please educate me.
-
• #2398
please tell me he rode it this weekend ? even round the kitchen or down the hall way
-
• #2399
On clinchers there's outward pressure on the lip. Some rims have limits on the pressures the lips can stand.

Friday night dining room trackstand practice was undertaken. No hands, the man's a pro.
I've used supersonics for many many miles and only had one puncture in two years. they ride beautifully.
(on the track bike, admittedly)
