  • anything more will look a bit odd... Less may actually flow into one another. But youre right about stiffness. if im pulling and pushing (skids included), i should go for the strongest.

  • I've been settled on 48:17 (74.1 GI) for years now. I dont attack the proper mountain roads on this (I have 41:26 for full on ascents). But I use my fixed for the most part, for out of town rides of 50 - 100 km. The word undulating doesnt even begin to describe the landscape up here.

    IMHO its a matter of taste, and muscle type.

    Distance is definitely a factor as well though. I'm guessing if you were doing rides over a century you might be forced to rethink your gearing.

  • I for one have faith in your cranks. But flexi chain rings can be an issue for bigger riders. Not a serious one, but one I would'nt except for the sake of a few grams. I paid a decent weight penalty going with aero rotor chainrings for this very reason.

    Possibly. I've never really tested it. I'm pretty sure of my bodies preferance for slow heavy efforts, over fast light ones, though. As I understand it, it largely down to muscle type. Its certainly getting exagerated as I age.

    FTR I spin 56 GI on the SS 29er, and when I have to ride on the road for long stints. I find it hard work.

  • Im sad that wiggle never went public with an IPO. I (as do a lot of us) spend a lot of money with them, it would make spending so much easier/enjoyable.

  • Seriously, there's a lot of metal there for something which is claimed to weigh 70g/pr. I suspect something got lost in translation and they are really 70g each. The SRAM ones are all fibre reinforced plastic, which is less than half the density of aluminium. The Vision ones are tiny and have no expander, which is why they are light but only work with Vision bars by clamping onto the OD, not plugging into the ID, and only work with special Vision cables which have miniature nipples.

  • They look nice, for an extra 20g (assuming you only use one lever) it might be worth using the KCNC if the lever shape is as comfortable as it looks. The SRAM ones are ten times nicer to use than the Vision, but they are still like grasping a knife blade.

  • one sram tt900 lever weighs 49.8g

  • Mine were closer to 49.5g, that's manufacturing tolerances for you :-)
