I'm no wheel expert .. So, I'm not sure you can go cheaper .. my reasoning was go a little lighter where the weight really counts at the rim for a marginal £ add.

As for eyelets I believe .. there use depends on the overall design of the rim. In this case I think BOR may be using them to spread load over a very thin wall rim.

I reckon the cranks'l be fine.

There does seem to be a MTB stuff is bombproof theme going here though. XC riders are some of the biggest weenies out there, and there is a market to feed them. Dont be fooled into thinking everything MTB is super solid.

Well, this project is costing me an absolute fortune.
