Cheers guys. It originally came with a matching alu fork, which I soon swapped for the carbon Time.
Is that the full carbon 1" time fork?
Nah, it's 1 1/8'' with a ( quite thin ) steel steerer, so possibly a boat anchor by todays standards. Quite reassuring for the 'heavier' rider though :-)
Not sure if the massive size makes it more or less valuable
Yeah, it's a 63cm. I suppose this means I can't sell it to you then mate ;-)
Inverse seatpost & stem?

As is the current fashion (think there's about 4 or 5 of these in CP right now) I've gone and got me a 1996 R400 frame.
It's from the 2.8 series and is apparently the "Criterium" version although I can't find anything about that on vintagecannondale. I think all the R bikes from a given year were essentially the same frame right?
I've not got it home as it's sitting on my work desk and won't get it back until Thursday when the strike's off.
Here it is from the sale thread:
What to do with it?
Given my love of triathlons (2 completed in the past decade alone) I've decided to turn this into a super a3ro machine on the cheap. The problem is I don't really know about fast bike parts.
Was gonna go for pursuit bars with clip on aero bits, some...fast...wheels(?)...fuck I'm already out of my depth. Gearing? Dunno. I'll leave it with DT shifters for cheapness and the fact I could more easily put drops on should the mood strike. 1996 was the first year these bikes had STIs but ain't nobody got time for that.
If I like it I might strip and polish it one day and put nice bits on.
So can you tell me what are some cheap but good wheel thingies and advise on gearing? 1x10?

wonder if this is worth a punt ? £ 31 currently
-
• #692
Poor thing. That's a Rush - a burly XC bike. It's successor, the RZ, lives on I think. Paint looks nice.
Would be a punt, for sure. Anything approaching £150 would be risk-tastic. Lefty could be dead / damaged, and repair isn't cheap. Headset could be toast, won't take normal forks natively - although there are crappy reducers and pricey replacement headsets. Frame could be damaged, pivot bearings shot - no idea how well it's been assessed.
If you really, really wanted one though...

so thats a NO then
;-)
-
• #694
I'd take it for £100
But I has Lefty tools so worst came to the worst I could strip it for parts. The Leftys with removable clamps are useful to people building Fatbikes so have picked up a bit in value.

it's on bumblebee auctions collection from bristol
i'll keep an eye on it, although decent bikes on there go for quite high prices -
• #696
Yeah I know a bit of sluthing and I found it.
No holidays planned in Bristol for a while though.

• #697
my folks are down that way - ish
-
• #698
Well, you know someone with lefty tools and know-how if that helps.
Stars might align and all. I even have a spare headshok stem :)

There really is a huge influx of 'dale builds aren't there. Very tempted by this at the moment.
Very confused by the geometry. Former TT bike?
Not sure if the massive size makes it more or less valuable but something around £200 is about right. Is that the full carbon 1" time fork?
