Yeh, but I have a dram red 22 crankset :(
Might just stick with the Si for now and sharpie the huge Si branding
-
• #5303
Yeahbut few people will want it :)
Like all low end used / takeoff bb30 cranks, people typically don't want them - because there's a reason you take them off - and if you are in the market for a bb30 road crank you typically want a high end one :)
Having said that they are probably more mtb appropriate than the hollowgram cranks.

Force looks nicer than the third tier si crank :)
Both the force bb30ish and the Red bb30 crank will fit both bb30 and bb30a frames, although with the later and the red bb30 crank that collet would need to come off and the chain line might be a few mms out.

Sell the Red 22 chainset and get this? you don't even need to change the spindle, and 484g altogether.
Bear in mind the CAAD12 105 come with the heavier carbon fork (abet still light).
-
• #5306
Yeh, current fork is 300g,i think the better one is 280g,from what I've read. I think I'll go with your advice. I'll sell the sram cranks and get sisl2. thank you kind sir

Its possible that by the time you've bought the SiSl2 chainset and a 105 bike you might as well have bought a model with the hollow Si or SiSl2 crank, spent less and got the lighter fork in to the bargain too.
I'd check that before pulling the trigger.

Probably

i'm building up a rough 1x8/9 caad3 for my brother in law
flat bars and bar shifters for ease of riding he won't be doing any drop bar stuff as he'll be riding with two 8 year oldswhat would my best options be ... something modern narrow wide 30 something at the front ?
or an older type 9 speed set up ?based on this thing

• #5310
Already bought the 105 bike and talking to somebody about sisl2 chainset
Will get the bike tomorrow and sisl2 hopefully this weekend
-
• #5311
There's still time then to do financial due diligence
I might be wrong
It's just worth exploring that's all

I have a 1990 white Cannondale 3.0 if you're interested?
I was going to put risers on it as well but other projects have taken priority. -
• #5313
cheers jules but i have the f&f already ... the red one in the picture, i built it up temporarily as a fixed ride but really should put gears on hence the brother in law project
it'll be the starting point of a 1 x 8 /9 / 10

got my carbon wheels now. A bit over claimed weight of 1650 +-30 as they were 1710 measured. Quite happy with them anyways!
-
• #5315
Were the weight with or without rim tape?
-
• #5316
Ed I remember you posted max tyre clearance pic for CAAD10 .. do you remember the numbers? Can a 25c on a wide rim + PDW fender work?
-
• #5317
weight of this bike vs weight of your orlo?
-
• #5318
havent weighed either. I'd guess this is 1-1,5kg less (around 8 vs 9ish). The bigger difference is the riding position. I have the bars set up 5cm lower and few cm further here.
-
• #5319
without tape. Dunno if they have their 1650 without 771 772 qr adapters, which would be quite silly.
-
• #5320
Dan Craven just posted this
-
• #5321
They likely to post without QR adaptor.
-
• #5322
Also the ride is quite different compared to my orlo. Not strictly better in every way but a lot stiffer and racier
-
• #5323
Not a thing of beauty really...is it?
-
• #5324
It is a work of art tho, like the neat cable routing on the downtube making it look tidier with eTap

It's the huge amount of saddle set back I find interesting, especially how you usually sit right near the back of those saddles too.
Cannondales should have Hollowgrams. Don't bother removing / trying to sell and giving yourself a huge BB headache. Hollowgrams are extremely boss.
