  • In theory all suspension at the post saps power.

And power is more important than your arse. Fact.

  • but, if my back is crippling me then saving it helps

having an epidural and then cortisone injections in my spine on saturday, so hopefully things will improve then anyway

  • Unless you race on pavé. Then you need a squishy frame and deflated tires

@dancing james I hope your operation goes well. My brother has had sciatica in his lower back and was miserable. Some days he couldn't walk.

  • If you're still struggling, the world of recumbent bikes and their arm chair comfort will embrace you.

  • Perhaps a sprung saddle?

The cortisone should claw back any efficiency losses!

  • I fitted a set of SKS razor blades to mine, not 100% effective but good enough for anything except a total downpour.

  • Sorry, Race Blades. Force of habit. I come from a very rough background. You can probably tell.

  • Is yours the carbon one without mudguard mounts? How do you attach to the fork crown?

  • It's just a tie wrap as I remember. They're pretty solid. It's the attachments to the forks/stays that give it rigidity. This year though thinking of Salomon guards, No longer in production but way better than Race Blades.

  • The same seller has a few sets of guards available.

  • CAAD10 framesets still for sale anywhere (discounted)? 58cm. Westbrook and Sigma are out.

  • Checked there already and 58 is out.

  • Too thick and not very good.

  • I have been dealing with a member of staff at sigma sport, and had asked to do a test ride of two sizes. He is now away for a few days but sent me an email to say call the workshop and come in for a test ride.

Have called the workshop and been told that sigma don't allow test rides but will allow me to sit on a turbo trainer on the bike. Am really surprised and thrown by this, how am I meant to get a feel for the handling on a static bike?

  • Evans? Test ride with them then buy from Sigma if you want.

Speaking of which, is this a good price for the spec? 105 5800. Would sell everything apart from the frame and fork and build with Ultegra 6800, Zonda wheels, etc. Seems like the CAAD10 frameset in my size is sold out at the places it was on sale, so this is another option.

Also, Ed mentioned some issues with the OTP Cannondale full-builds, creaky BB30 etc: There's no chance the distributer / Evans mechanics damage the frame when putting it together, right? I'll be able to pop out the BB30 bearings and install a Praxis convertor for the Ultegra crankset with no problems?

  • Turns out they have hire bikes I could try for a ride, but it'd be caliber brakes not disc synapse. Seems like a communication brake down.

  • ^ what about a 2nd hand complete caad10 from eBay then part out and keep the frameset? They seem to go for around 650 with 105, sometimes ultegra

  • Truth. Just thought if I bought a complete SuperSix Evo with the 105 5800 I could probably sell everything apart from the frame and fork for about £400-500 on eBay, meaning the frame and fork would cost about £500, which is less than a new CAAD10 frameset, and 200g lighter at 950g. Only downside I can see is no scope for future Di2 upgrade, as external cable routing, but no biggie.

  • The supersix 105 looks great value, if you're happy with the colourway. Always hear great things about the supersix Evo frameset.

  • Supersix EVO, wide rims and fat 25c GP4000s... will PDW Fenders fit?

  • Speaking of which, is this a good price for the spec? 105 5800

Seems like a pretty good price. I got the standard (non Evans special) version with 105 brakes and Gossamer chainset for £1125. I prefer the paint scheme tbh.

No creaking from the BB in the 200 km or so I have ridden it so far and the frame is very nice.

Mine is currently with Condor waiting for a Rotor pushfit BB to arrive so I can have a 105 compact chainset fitted. I didn't get on with the semi-compact gearing and the FSA chainsets don't seem to have a very good reputation. They are going to put some kind of bonding agent on the new BB and clamp it for 24 hours which, I am told, will prevent creaking.

Clearance at the chainstays is very tight with Michelin Pro4 25mm / RS81 wheels on mine.
