  • lol.

  • Tweaked the bar angle a smidge before setting off today, and now have a comfy riding position without my wrists at an odd angle. Shifting is much easier now.

My previous experience of panniers was riding to Cornwall as a teenager and my ss 29er. Both bikes handled like utter pigs when laden. Was pleasantly surprised by the boardman, it does feel a little light at the front and swerving is a little erratic, but it does not feel like the 29er which had the handling characteristics of an oil tanker when turning.

The ride is harsher than I am used to. Need to find a battery and will then install cadence meter. Am used to riding compact gearing, on the road, xc not race gearing off road, and 66 GI on the fixie twatter. Big cranks feel like hard work.

TBH I would suggest the bike as a winter commuter with no hesitation. It rides harsher than my bikes so am now really looking forwards to see how it compares to the lynskey as many of the components are v similar.

Hope hubs are brilliant on canal paths, as I discovered yesterday. Stop pedalling and pedestrians will hear you coming.

  • If you go down the canal path with a Chris king hubs, stop pedalling and shouted "WASP! WASP! IM GETTING STUNG BY WASPS!"

  • haz frame

  • The frame you originally wanted?

  • needs a few tweaks and to trim the brake hoses

took it out for a quick ride, its fast and nimble, a little more plush than the boardman

cable routing was a little bit of a conundrum

  • Looks like the boardman had skinnier tyres though?

  • yep, boardman has skinnier tyres

  • Nice looking piece of kit.

  • Took the cunts long enough...

  • Dibs, but not that moody seat.

  • What's that disco saddle?

  • fizik arione cx, 2ndand from Dammit along with his old seatpost

brake pads need to be bedded in

    bar tape to go on

rear mech is a little sluggish, might have another look at the cable routing for that too

  • Looking good.......it 'sits' nicely..

  • Very nice! Enjoy.

  • yep, boardman has skinnier tyres

If you can be boverred, maybe its worth riding them with similar tyres to get a real comparison of stiffness.

  • Could just swap the wheels- identical in terms of hubs, Shimano cassette and discs, then take it for a spin.

  • bar tape to go on

I have a couple of rolls of red and black splash if you need.

  • still not certain if this spaghetti junction of cabling is correct

not sure if i should try using a v-brake noodle for the cable run to the hydraulic converter

the hydraulic hoses are yet to be cut

  • It would probably make it a bit neater. Could you run the turns into the junction/converter a bit tighter, or would that be too tight a turn?

    Edit: this pic shows noddles:

  • it seems to cause too tight a turn, see dammit's question on AQA

  • What length stem are you using?
