  • haha you might want to revise your comment as it can be taken in a number of ways

  • Seen my bike today, I'm gobsmacked by how different it look to Ryan 's other build, truly a high end artistic frame.

Will upload photo tonight after TweedrRun birthday cocktail.

so you're saying yours is or isn't truly a high end artistic frame?

  • oh dear

  • That must be a great feeling!

So many pictures of this but none even remotely worthy yet.

  • haha you might want to revise your comment as it can be taken in a number of ways

Yes, was slightly tipsy, having said that I'm even more tipsy now.

What I was saying is that Ryan's recent work consisted of polo bicycle and tourer that's build purely to function, which is why I was quite taken aback by seeing my bike in the flesh (and the red Rohloff tourer is in the same room too).

the paint is much greyer than the photo, and it look amazing.

  • Earlier in the thread you made it sound like you chose this french style randonneur because they were designed for pure uncompromising function.

  • he was talking about the function not being compromised. ie. the bike having only one single purpose and not have to double as something else.
that form of uncompromising functions is what leads to an artisanal work of art.

  • Scoble's gonna post his own bike in pron isn't he...

  • ^^^

  • let's all not do it and see how long until he does.

  • Brother Apollo, I wouldn't do anything illegal like that.

    Quick teaser;

    And looking great ed :)

  • this is gonna be a beaut Ed, a real head turner and all that!

    "No compromise"

Quill stem and down tube shifters.
    [/meme]

    That ^

  • Much more reliable than brifter that's for sure.

  • Shut up, Ed

    hang on....

  • slain post^

  • Much more reliable than STI that's for sure.

I've worn out 2 pairs of hoods on my 8 speed ergos since I bought them in mid 90s. Never touched the internals, loads of road rash.

But I kind of agree. I've been using DT shifters on my road bike for a year and really like them again.
I'm sure you considered bar-end shifters why didn't you use them?

I've got no problem with quill stems.
    It's not a sprint bike.

  • I had bar end shifters in the past, they're slightly more convenience than downtube being a little closer to me, but even so it's still more complex than the simple downtube which doesn't even required any cable housing, just the rear derailleur loop, especially when you account for the handlebar bag.

My biggest beef with bar-end shifter; the fantastic ability to shift with your kneecap.

Because of my abnormal sizing, the shifter is a lots closer to me than others, so I've repeated experience of shifting with my kneecap while ascending, it wasn't particularly fun dropping the chain to the 11t cog on a 25% ascent.

  • P.S. I'm aware the bottle cage is in the wrong way round.

  • is there a rear light?

    is that a CK 2-Nut?

reach look long for you brother scoble*

    *not that we're brothers

  • Brother Apollo, Nik may be able to work out the compatibility between the front and rear light.

Chris King Gripnut, bit of space for a custom hanger.

Reach's spot on (110mm stem + 110mm handlebar), have faith.
