I wasn't actually planning on chopping the steerer just yet (if at all) - just the Ahead adapter that I've got stuck in there. I think that'll be enough to have it slammed to the top of the actual 1" steerer as it is.
Thanks miro_o, I'll check out Aspirevelotech.

I don't understand how you can go lower without cutting the steerer.
The locknut is currently right below the stem and I assume it sits on the top of the steerer threading?
-

Na it's not quite. I can probably cut about 10 mm off the adapter before it hits the top of the steerer, maybe a bit more if the X2 has a lower stack height. I'll get some close up pics up tomorrow to show you what I mean.

I see.
Most stems are 40mm in stack height. Those X2s are 35mm. Hope that helps!

Cool, cheers.

Gorgeous bike, must ride like a dream.

^Thanks, it does rather. Lovely 18 mile ride to work this morning in the sunshine!
So this is what I mean about the Ahead adapter, at the moment:
Can slam to this:

• #84
's not really slammed.
that's slammed-that's what I meant when I was talking about steerer choppage, i thought you wanted to take it all the way down to china town.
-
• #85
Yeah I know (ok slammed wasn't quite what I meant). I'm not going to do that. That would be uncomfortably low.
To top of current steerer will be fine with a Thomson for me I think for now...

Best option - get Robin Mather to make you a custom stem for oversized bar.

Lovely.
I'd chuck some Cinelli natural cork tape on it. Cheap, comfortable, and pretty.

Best option...

I can't believe Ed still struggles to differentiate between his unique viewpoint and fact after all the grief we've given him over the years.

So long as you read every post as opinion it's not a problem though right?
This goes for everyone's Internet brain-farting. Especially mine.
Unique perspectives are good otherwise... Bikeradar >>>>>>

Thanks very much.
Yeah going to be a silver in-line post. I will de-sticker rims, was planning that anyway. Can't wait to ride this thing!
U mad bro?
Rim stickers look cool and differentiate your wheels from generic tat.

Do you leave the tags on your clothes?
-
• #95
Except that 99.9% of rims nowadays have gash rim stickers that are just add space.
It's a bit like the new RL polo shirt logo.

It's because he has EVERYONE on ignore.

Lovely frame by the way!

Yeah alright guys, CHILLAX!

I've just ordered some more for my fixed. I really like the natural cork look.
You can get standard cork or gel. I like the gel personnaly. Its a tad bulkier, but does offer a little more cush.

Yeah cheers Smallfurry, I liked the sound of that cork gel tape such that I've just ordered some, along with a Thomson stem!
When they're fitted I think it'll be pretty much finished.
personally I wouldn't be so gung-ho about chopping the steerer... best playing with spacer height a bit first before settling on what you want. I know zero stack height is de rigeur all of a sudden but you want this ride to be comfortable before fashionable so chop it now and forever be damned if it don't suit...
