  • suntour bb and cranks & headset is a must

  • I dont know anything about suntour-not really seen them in use at track
suntour now seems to come as cheap triple touring chainsets, but presumably it used to higher end if its NJS stamped?

  • suntour bb and cranks & headset is a must

Why on earth are they "a must"?

  • You mean apart from the fact that suntour superbe is fantastic looking and its what originally came on the bike?

  • The orthodox devotees amongst us won't approve but this is my favourite ever Cannondale track:

with a better stem and drops perhaps.

  • I think he meant to match the original spec- but I wont be using suntour immediately if only because I have a full build kit already that works
also I will be using this for track so I would need to buy 3-4 new chainrings if I swap cranks as I currently use 130bcd stronglights

  • You mean apart from the fact that suntour superbe is fantastic looking and its what originally came on the bike?

Well, yes, seeing as neither of those are valid enough reasons to be "a must"

  • it certainly wont have flat bars..

  • Moustache bars and a rack?

  • Probably front and rear rack, do team sprint on one bike dropping a guy off each lap

  • Tallboy: in regards to the fork, luckily the canondale track's fork isn't really in-keeping with the rest of the frame anyway, which means it should be fairly easy to find an off-the-shelf fork with a similar look and a brake drilling.

  • If you ever decide to sell this frame, could I have first dibs?

  • You could join a long queue! I doubt I will though as it belonged to a mate

  • You mean apart from the fact that suntour superbe is fantastic looking and its what originally came on the bike?

    this yeah

  • Well, yes, seeing as neither of those are valid enough reasons to be "a must"

When I said its a must I certianly didnt mean I the spanish inquisition will decapitate him getting caught with it built up outside the stock setup :) Just that suntour goes really good on the cannondale track

  • I knew what you meant! I'll not be using it outside probably so should be ok!
Currently I think I will just change the stem, most likely get a nitto, add my nitto bars and change the seat, then just use stronlight cranks for now since my rings fit.
If the bike fits my needs then I'll look at new headset, paint job, cranks etc. I have a month off work in June so may do some work on it then.

Saying that, I've not got the frame yet!

  • nice bike

  • haha, that explains why I cant find 900SX track frames! (doh) I guess he did get it resprayed after all.

I remember he had a frame reprinted, I think this might have been the original colour: (can find out for definite if you like)

  • Is the "f900sx" a decal? Maybe just remove that, cause the paint looks nice only the model is wrong.

  • The big CANNONDALECANNONDALE decals are wrong too, in more than one way.
So I'd say remove those too, but then again, I'd strip it and add some period correct decals and a clear coat.

  • Rob that's the one definitely, I saw it in that colour too so the paint is less than 5 years old. I will most likely keep paint as is for now then look to restore later.

The big man looks in good shape there, where's the pic from?

  • Roadcyclng.co.uk it's herne hill, probably a good Friday and probably around late 1990s maybe early 2000s

  • Love these. need one in my life!

  • im thinking now that green is a respray to match brixton cycles colours?

is there a downside to stripping and respraying alloy frames too often?

  • No the green was a stock colour for that frame, I say go back to it.
