+1
I did do a bit of dribbling/ snoring/ head-lolling I think, although I tried to pretend otherwise at the time -

Right...so myself and my best friend really want to do this....no, what I mean, is that I really want to do this and I think I'll probably drag Sarah along with me...but, what do I really need to know?
The ever reliable internet says that anyone on a BSO with a head torch manages to complete it and yet others are saying that they had the wrong handlebars....her bike is pretty much a BSO, it's got knobbly tyres (though I have some spare 26" slicks), gearing that seems perfect for a hand whisk, suspension on the front, a saddle bigger than my arse and a bouncy seat post. I've got north roads and 23mm tyres. We both ride 25 miles tops in a day, she is relatively fit, I get through 20 a day and bought a gym membership at new year....though never went.
Thoughts please!

Pack some sarnies and get involved. You'll be fine. And if not, it'll be an adventure.

change tyres to slick, then do it.
I admired those who did it on such bike than the roadie with their club gear arriving before the sun rise.

Fixed there and back on 80 inches I reckon. Who needs knees.

What are the chances of being able to squeeze your bike onto a train at Halesworth or Darsham?
Next to none.
Around 1000 people are likely to turn up again this year and Southwark Cyclists only cater for around 750 on coaches back. Another 60-70 will sort their own minibuses or get collected from the beach and the same again will either camp or ride back. Leaves around 100 people getting the train either from Halesworth/Darsham or Ipswich. Even if the guard allows 15-20 bikes on each train, which there is no guarantee of, you could still be getting home later than a coach trip and spending a lot of time hanging around at the train station rather than at the beach.

We'll worry about them when we go and pick them up back in London.

I would recommend getting some practice in, find some 40 mile rides to do, then do a couple of 80's then just attack it.
I was passed by middle aged women on some dutch style bikes at one point, cycling that distance isn't so hard as long as you keep eating!

Keep eating, that's my speciality.

Don't recall seeing any Burger Kings en-route, though.

OK thanks for that. I hate buses, they give me headaches, but if its the only viable option then I'll have to go with it.

You could cycle back...
You were probably asleep :)
I think I asked if anything could be done, if not it was someone else. But he had the air con on full and it wasn't working, and the problem with air conditioned coaches is the windows don't open.
This is why it would be better if the windows opened on things like in the old days, instead of wasting all that oil on air con...
