Cheers for the comment, I'll put new pics up when I've sourced this front hub and built the wheels. Then it's just finishing touches...brake levers, cables, chain and toe straps.
What stuff are you putting on yours?

Sweet, looking forward to seeing it. So far I've decided on wheels - H+Sons Archetypes, with PW high flange slotted hubs and DT spokes. Brooks for the saddle and grips... still researching the rest:-)

That's a very solid wheelset that will ride brilliantly - not tempted by the TB14 rims for classic aesthetics, or are you going for a modern build? I'm interested to see what crankset/bar set up you go for too :-)

Pretty cool mate - is that yours?

yes ;) and those are cb italia rims, but clincher, tubulars are nicer!
-
• #84
haha - awesome! why didn't you go for tubs?
PM me when you get full access!

I made a mistake ;)

You know I think your right, I am after a more classic build and looking around some more, the tb14's now seem way more appropriate for the look I'm after. Cheers for the tip:-)
Still undecided on my bar setup but keen for a campag record pista crankset + chainring with pw bb.

That build is going to be really lovely when it's finished.

Cheers C! Front hub acquired and rims ordered - both on their way from Italy to arrive in a week or so! Gone for this shade of wood in the end.

Love the brakes, but not on the gazzetta!

Each to their own...I think the brakes are my favourite addition!

Alright everyone...an update on my project :-) my wheels are finished!!!
Campagnolo Low flange C record 28h track hubs laced to CB Italia wooden rims (Vintage stain). The tyres are Deda Tre Olympico Tubs.
Had them built by David at DCR Wheels, who did a great job building and truing the wheels over a period of about 4 days. The rims shift and settle during the build, so have to be readjusted as this takes place.
I am really pleased with the result and can't wait to ride them! Made a few other changes too. Gone is the Brooks saddle, replaced with this little beaut..
Just thought it ties the build together better than the Brooks...just a few bits and pieces and possible tweaks away from completion...the bars have some white tape waiting for them, which should go well with the matching c record brake levers.
I'm just debating whether to swap the popes with drop bars to achieve a more classic look that would be more versatile for riding. The levers would also look better on a set of drops I'm sure.
I'll keep posting updates with pictures...have another wheel option that I'm having built up next week...some Mack hubs to Campag Zonda rims...with a freewheel should be good for longer road rides, as I don't want to use the brakes at all on the wood rims really.

The finished wheels look fantastic .. I said it already (I think) but I'm looking forward to seeing this build finished with the attention that's gone into the execution.

i must admit the wooden rims look better than I thought. However, I wouldn't be too keen on running fixed with tubs myself

Sexy as hell

I don't know why peoples feel the need to repost that picture! Bad choice of background in hindsight. I guess it is a pretty big jump in hub choice at least, though the rim shades aren't far off. Just sold the profile/velocity wheelset through ebay to a guy who'll be using them for a bamboo demonstration bike. That sounds pretty cool.
Just on the lookout for a set of Cinelli crits now so I can set up the levers/brakes. Annoyingly the Campag brake guides are too small for my top tube but am wondering if I can just get a longer screw to tighten them..? Perhaps a trip down to the hardware store beckons.
Cheers for the comments guys. I am pleased with the wheels, though they are darker than I expected, so am getting used to the look on the bike. I think light gumwall tyres could be an improvement to lighten the bike a little, so may keep an eye out for a nice set of Veloflex tubs that aren't too pricey.

So you're not using the priests now? The reissued crits are quite cheap as I remember. Velox tubs and skidding are not good friends btw
-
• #98
With two brakes you'll never want to skid!
-

Thinking I might sideline the priests for the time being, until some silver Paul cross levers transpire. The delta levers are good to go and I'd like to get it finished too. Yeah, around £40 for the reissue crits isn't bad really.
Cheers for the heads up spotter..this is my first set of tubs. Wont be fixie skidding on them though. Have actually lined up another wheelset for this purpose, with a freewheel too so I can beast it down the hills without pedalling like a loon! They're getting built up next week.

I thought you didn't think you wanted to use brakes with the wooden rims?
Also priests are bff's with drop levers, look:Also my lbs, the urban cyclery Swansea had some reduced crits the other day, have look on their site
Just stumbled across this thread, sweet looking project Meds:-)
I too have got a cinelli gazzetta in the same colour as yours. Gradually stockpiling bits and pieces so I'm keen to see how yours progresses... Keep posting pics hey!
