• We have a great relationship with Southwark, what did they say? I thought two courts was the approach decided upon? Confused.

It would help if you went through some of the UKHBPA's background decisions, who's on the committee, why this is still a fair approach, etc. It comes across as yourself changing things/organising at will at the moment (which may lead down a path of miss-trust if you're not careful).

As you were, out of the loop, shooting from the hip, might just be me.

Also I've tried to choose the court which is most similar to the Euros courts.

The sentiment is right here, but the first priority should be having enough games/as accurate final standing as possible so no teams feel "duped" during the qualification process.

  • .

  • Ok, back to the original plan, it's at Newington, on two courts.

  • 1) Thumbs Up!
    2) Bubonic Plays

  • Nice one John/UKHBPA.

  • nicely played on the 5 there em. :)

And if there are, then some of those teams should question whether they will make the top 10.

  • And if there are, then some of those teams should question whether they will make the top 10.

No, they shouldn't. I think anyone who wants to go to the EHBPC should enter.

  • it it just me or does that justification seem silly?
"only enter if you beleive you can make it in the top ten?"

at this rate, i may put the goal slotters in, just because if the list were to remain the same, we would make top 10 by default. on top of which, how do you know if you can or cannot make the top 10, without ermmmmm.... maybe playing a tournament to see where you rank?

not shit stirring, just musing, as i shant be playing regardless

  • No, they shouldn't. I think anyone who wants to go to the EHBPC should enter.

With all due respect Bill, that's one of the conditions agreed by the UKHBPA , if you have an issue with that, take it up with Ben.

And nobody is telling anyone not to enter, it's for teams to decide themselves, it's just to discourage teams who just want to turn up to play and have no interest in qualifying. The more teams we have the less accurate the results will be. It's no different to last year, where it was suggested to teams like Pesky Skids that we shouldn't enter. So we didn't (we knew we wouldn't qualify).

The list will bulk out before the deadline, they can decide whenever they want. If you haven't played a tournament, and have no idea where you roughly rank, then the answer is probably no. HGS for example, I'd say have a chance, and should enter if you want. But that's up to you to decide.

    this

Also remember that the idea of this tourney is very simply to find 10 teams willing and able to represent the UK and Ireland at this years EHBPC which is unashamedly looking for the best teams only. So therefore thats why the UKHBPA are asking for teams who might really struggle to beat the best 10 in the region to really think about whether their standard matches up before entering. Ultimately there is nothing to stop a beginners team entering but if they did come, then it is pretty sure that they would not qualify and take up alot of game time which in this tournament is at a premium

HGS arent entering this year cause felix and I cant make it

  • The more teams we have the less accurate the results will be.

    Not true.

What I think you might mean is that as the number of teams increases, the more the format will have to stray from round-robin to facilitate them all. Any perceived inaccuracy will consequently come from the inherent failings of the chosen format, not the number of teams that enter. I suppose a lot of format failings are really the fault of time...

In the spirit of constructive criticism, may I suggest an alternative sound-bite which could aid in our shared quest for rampant elitism:

"If you have ever felt like there's not enough time, you probably should not enter because we are all running out of time. The less time we have, the less accurate our lives are."

  • ha

  • Not true.

Yes, you are quite correct, it is a lack of time, and court space, which lead to decreasing accuracy of results, not the teams themselves.

Once we have learned to bend space and time, or we are all rich enough to play polo all day I'll bear that in mind (beagle smiley)

  • But you can bend space and time John H (or at least use multiple courts on the same day).
