Tu-134 empty weight ~27 tonnes

Mi-26 max payload ~20 tonnes

With the tailplane and wingtips off, presumably the interior stripped back to metal it's easy-peasy for the world's strongest chopper. An Mi-26 is about 3m longer overall than a Tu-134.

Wow. thats ridiculous.

The Russians do like them big.

They have natural resources which need heavy plant to extract, sometimes hundreds of km from any tarmac roads. They build big choppers because they need them.
