That was fun - lovely evening for it
Home safely after a night on the tube.

The route's a lot of fun when it's dry, dusty, and you hit it at tempo. I'm hoping to get a chance to ride it that way towards the end of August…
You better work on that. I might even ride fixed. Grumpy was spot on so. I really did not want to do this route again. But it was absolutely brilliant. A full moon, wheat fields with dear running into the forrest and cows on the road at Tawney and hardly any cars af all. Thank you everybody.

What happened?
snapped/bolt came off my rear 'rail. I had to convert to SS (oh the shame) but the chain kept jumping around. Was too lazy to adjust chain tension so pootled home.

The material did not last that far into the ride for Ben to need a taxi; even so Des tried. Bad luck Ben, you were missed at the beers.

Really nice night's riding, thanks all. Great to see some new faces out there on a Tuesday. Bad luck Ben - one of those things (that seem to happen to the Benotto). Was talking in the pub about a TNRC ride to take in some tamac etchings out Box Hill way - will put together a new 50km ish Surrey hills route for next time.

The Fig Rolls of death. Originally passed from Ramaye to Benjam when a split tyre ended his ride before he'd even got on the train. Beware whoever has them now, they're cursed, cursed I tell you.

And those "Beware Cattle" signs that always made me chuckle make a lot more sense now.

BTW Des, happy to plan a route and recon. I'm quite familiar with the SW area as I know you are too.

they were chris' and I agreed to pay him £15 per Fig roll. You can pay him next time.

^ No problem - will offset against the £16 per fig roll transportation charges.

So I really wana get out on some hills next time... wondering what to do. I'm thinking I could loop a route from Effingham Jn down whiteddown, into dorking, over box hill and back. How does that sound?
-
• #1893
Boo!
Are there any problems with bikes on trains to Effingham?
-
• #1894
They u turned the ban so it was only last weekend
-
• #1895
In that case,
Effingham Jn down whiteddown, into dorking, over box hill and back.
Sounds cool.

• #1896
Quick and dirty but how about something like this...
-
• #1897
^ I like it Mat, all the best bits of the widow maker with box hill and then ran more. Think of a name for it :)

There is still a bit too much of the A24 in there for my liking. Cutting down Longbottom Rd is a possibility but it cuts a lot of 'lympic course out. We could cut through the residential bit which seems to be labelled Givon Grove.

Good ideas there - I was thinking something like this...

Picks up the nice part of the olympic route around staples lane and has a few new sections from regular tnrcs. Left turn from effingham junction for a change. I'm not familiar with the down section of the loop from the top of Box hill to Westhumble though (which i guess is where we need to go) - don't know how much fun that would be at night with a group. The rest of it is all nice lanes. My thoughts anyway.
That was brilliant
Here's the route on Strava
