  • Noca's friend works with Alluminium- you could speak to him about having the head tube cut away, then replaced with a headtube designed to take an integrated headset.

Great opportunity to steepen the head angle as well, to enable greater aggression.

  • Sounds like a lot of trouble. Sell it and buy a Mash, no one will care if you strip the paint off it then.

    Trolling fo sure

  • So after doing some riding on it I can safely say that it feels a lot more aggressive. Quite nice. However, the Planet X cap doesn't fit flush against the bearings. As soon as a considerable bit of force is put on it it wobbles about 0.5mm meaning the steerer isn't being held straight. Going to have to swap back to the FSA for now.

  • Just get a track stem.

  • Have you thought about swapping it for Hobo's stripped Mash?
He wants a Vig and has a Mash to sell.
Already missing the paint and much more agressive geometry.

edit: oh never mind, it's already sold

  • I think we need to quantify the aggression required, from partial Hainault to the five bell Badger.

  • Apparently the paint is actually structural on this frame, I wouldn't recommend stripping it.

That headset needs an inverse shim, that'll help you to lower the stack height.

  • Is it really? Oh Christ! Thank God you told me before it was too late! Thank you so much for your precious information.

  • Would it be fair to say the paint is a large part of the value of these should you come to resell it?

If so, might be wise to keep it as is, but of course if you intend on riding this until it crumbles into dust that is not an issue.

  • Yeah, I have thought about that. But I'd like to sell this on to someone who wants the bike for what it is rather than a pretty paintjob. Hobo managed to sell his raw Mash almost instantly. I know they are a more popular frame and are considered to have a less desirable paintjob, but still.

But, yes, those are my intentions anyway :)

  • It's being stripped this Friday, by the way.

  • Your headset will die quickly with the wrong topcap. A quick search of the interwebz reveals this is a common complaint, regarding the height of the FSA topcap. I have the carbon version on my BMC. To be honest I'm glad of the height, as that frame has a tiny headtube.

Chuck a flipped On-one stem on it. Comes in all sorts of angles, and lengths. I have 3 or 4 of them, and they work great.

  • The frame looks hot. Pictures soon. No sense of regret yet...

  • Are you gonna polish it or leave it brushed?

  • the welds look better with paint over them

  • Here's the bike built up. Didn't touch the forks. I was too worried about screwing them up. Stripped it with airplane paint stripper (cool because it's Columbus airplane tubing) and wire wool. It took a lot of elbow grease at some points. Went over it roughly with some Scotchbrite at the end. I think it looks nice.I hope I saved face by keeping the smile on the BB...

Oh, and that stem was only temporary to go out riding.

  • It looks cool, but if I were you I'd also strip the forks, or buy some carbon ones orso.

  • also like the red chain/red tire combo

  • why is the saddle so slanty?

  • because it's too high

  • get some carbo lift for the forks.

  • Actually, on a serious note, that saddle looks like its mounted too far forward on the rails. you could bend your rails and ruin the saddle if youre not careful.

  • If you're bothered about the weight of paint, then loose the coloured chain!

  • don't get some carbo lift for the forks.

    ftfy

Carbolift is shit don't bother. Buy some new forks or spend some time carefully sanding them down.
