Great weekend!
Right, so the MCR polo to do list looks a bit like this:
: Talk to London about the Velodrome Polo tourney
: Find out about the Status of Arcadia, and whether we can get involved in the place to stop it closing/getting regular sessions there
: find a MCR indoor space like Cambridge, keep your eyes peeled for likely vacant buildings.
: Get Whitworth cleaned up/bleached etc ready for when the weather gets better
: Play more Polo....! -

does anyone have experience of registering a charity? would it be worth registering MHBPA as a charitable organisation... i know its a giant leap from where we are now.... perhaps we need to start actually having some regular meetings and try and work out what we want to try and acheive for MCR Polo

Yes! Ste's girlfriend is working on the image branding at the moment, lets finally get MHBPA off the ground.

think it's better to set up as a not for profit (if that's any different to a charity?), brum had a thread i linked to a bit ago wil see if i can find it... -

from this thread: http://www.lfgss.com/thread51843.html
"I had a thought...Play on Business Rates
There are many industrial properties that are vacant around the city. These properties have rates liabilities to the owners when not occupied (once occupied the liability shift to the lessee). If we setup BHM Bike Polo as a not for profit we could use for 42 days (shortest occupancy period to qualify for reset of the rates free period) and the owner would get a 6 month rates free period. The 42 days would be rates free and a not for profit is automatically given 80% rates reduction with the 20% remainder at the councils discretion. Of course we would not pay any rent or utilities for the space as the owner is going to receive the benefit of the rates free period.... still needs some work, but thought I would through it out to the group."sounds like a pretty good idea to me... thoughts?

cheers Yoav..... we need to find out more about ways of doing this....
another thing to add to my list was something that Ste mentioned in the car yesterday: setting up a UK wide Polo-Wiki, one that coould contain all useful info relating to Polo, from mallet making to tournament bracketing formats to how to aproach council/sponsors to getting indooor polo spaces (charity status not-for-profit etc...)
sounded like a good idea to me ...
