  • haha i lol'd in the office. cue having to explain to douche bag colleagues who clearly aren't as cool as us

  • its the way you say it, Graeme didnt know that. just "the other court is bumpy and no flood lights."
your not on 4chan now scott

true fact, didn't know, I'd have assumed that if there were two courts there, they whould be a smiler standard

I thought it was the brother of all fuck ups.

  • i ain't seen under siege, let alone the second one

  • edit: what i meant to convey was that i sent a text which said polo @7.30 on it to stagger the times when people arrive hopefully. Polo always starts at 6.30

ive decided to send my text for 7.30 tomorrow. so, be there at the usual time, usual guys

thats sort of the oposite from what we were thinking though isnt it?

see how it works and go from there

    .......

  • i dont get it. 7.30?

  • Paul I think you ahve it the wrong way round? beginners can play before 7.30 then the usual lot play after that? either way im working tomorrow night anyway

  • ok. what i meant to say is that i sent a text which said polo @7.30 to the contacts i have to stagger the times when people arrive hopefully. Polo always starts at 6.30

that's fine Paul but it is the other way round than we said, means regulars get 1 hour at the start, the previous suggestion (which fair enough was never set in stone) was that new people play for 1 hour and regular players play for 2.

voice your idea on here and check people agree with them before you do it.

The way things are going needs to change, were catering for new people more than the regular people. For example on thursdays when the regulars are paying for it we get 16 people, then on Sunday when its light all day and free there was just 7 of us.

The problem is now new people are already settled in and presume they can play whenever, which makes it harder to tell them they cant. It does need to be done because at the moment the games are farcical, I also think we should set an age limit of 16+ for the later 2 hours at powerhouse, its dangerous to be playing against young kids. It wouldn't happen in any other sport, especially one that has as many collisions as polo.

i have suggested the other week:
    Saturday/Sundays - newbies/regulars
powerhouse: 6.30-7.30 everyone, 7.30-9.30 experienced players

this gives new players the opportunity to play 3 times a week for free which i think is more than fair.

Im gonna give it a rest for a week or so until we can sort this out because IMO were in a worse position now than we were a year ago playing in the car park.
I know things change, people move away and we need to fill those gaps but we have to look out for the people who have been doing this for years rain or shine without floodlights etc and are still here becuse at the moment they are the people who are comming off worse from all this.

    • loads. rather than discussing it on here, we really need to all get together and discuss it in person. i know i've not been to the previous MHBPA meetings but i agree we need to get this sorted sooner rather than later. what we need is to get all suggestions down, vote and then (most importantly) stick to what we decide to do. there seems to have been too much of us deciding to do things and then changing our minds, we really need to be consistent.
i'm free pretty much all evenings during the week at the mo, so any day next week is fine with me - how about everyone else?
  • suggested topics for discussion:

    1. when do 'new' people get to play
    2. what seperates 'new' from 'experienced'
    3. who pays for powerhouse lights
    4. can we justify another night at powerhouse
    5. how many 'experienced' players do we need at the newbies sessions (to give tips/advice etc)

please add any more you can think of.

  • there's nothing wrong with discussing it on here either though,
    my opinion:

    1. when do 'new' people get to play - saturday mornings, sunday daytime, 6.30-7.30 thursdays
    2. what seperates 'new' from 'experienced' - if they have played for more than a couple of months and have sufficient bike, mallet control and spacial awareness that allows the match to be played to a tournament level.
    3. who pays for powerhouse lights - regular players who pay monthly and play in the evening sessions
    4. can we justify another night at powerhouse - not at the moment
    5. how many 'experienced' players do we need at the newbies sessions (to give tips/advice etc) - all/any experienced players will be present at all times, there is not a time when experienced people cant play, there is just 2 hours on a thursday when new people cant.

yeah, we can discuss it on here, but i think it's best to get any final decisions made at a meeting, where we can all vote, and where people who aren't on the forum can be included.

my opinion (in bold after each comment):

    1. when do 'new' people get to play - saturday mornings, sunday daytime, 6.30-7.30 thursdays agreed

    2. what seperates 'new' from 'experienced' - if they have played for more than a couple of months and have sufficient bike, mallet control and spacial awareness that allows the match to be played to a tournament level. who judges whether the bike/mallet control/spacial awareness is sufficient?

    3. who pays for powerhouse lights - regular players who pay monthly and play in the evening sessions regular players can be new or experienced, as can people who play in the evening sessions - does this mean everyone pays?

    4. can we justify another night at powerhouse - not at the moment maybe we can - we need to at least gauge interest in another night to see if we can get enough players to fund it

    5. how many 'experienced' players do we need at the newbies sessions (to give tips/advice etc) - all/any experienced players will be present at all times, there is not a time when experienced people cant play, there is just 2 hours on a thursday when new people cant. agreed

  • on the points youve questioned id say,

who judges whether the bike/mallet control/spacial awareness is sufficient? tough one but as much as id hate to admit it probably Chan and a few more experienced players, there will be a general agreement and there is nothing wrong with this, like i said the way we are currently wouldn't happen in any other sport

who pays for powerhouse lights - the people who play 7.30 - 9.30

**can we justify another night at powerhouse - **i think for now though 3 sessions is enough, would people actually want to pay double and play on Tuesdays as well (i dont think there would be enough people)

who pays for powerhouse lights - the people who play 7.30 - 9.30 agreed

**can we justify another night at powerhouse - **i think for now though 3 sessions is enough, would people actually want to pay double and play on Tuesdays as well (i dont think there would be enough people) ok, you're probly right but see what other people think as it is at least an option for the future

does anyone else have any input into these points/other points to raise?

  • Hey all,

Looks like ideas around this are developing well.

I am still interested to see if Thursday nights will be for me or not - but either way - I have friends over from NZ this week and a job interview tomorrow so I am out tonight regardless.

    Anyway - have fun tonight!

    Steve

  • does anyone else have any input into these points/other points to raise?

think most will agree with what you guys have already discussed. as long as its fairly clear who can and who can't play on a Thursday. on that note, we're still on for polo tonight, yeah? its pissing down, but we're clearly hardcore burly types who dont care about a bit of water, right?

  • Yaaah!!

  • Polo is on. Chan dont forget the key

  • I don't have the key. I'm not playing tonight, picked up some horrible bug at work. Currently in bed :(

  • I think Adam has the key..

  • Nope....
