did anyone get that message off kieren about beginners polo this Sunday 24th at plat fields?
its at 2.00 are we gonna miss our training to do it or are a couple of people just gonna go there? -

Think what Neil meant was that we should play 10 minutes unlimited goals like we did at the BFF... i'd be down for that..
lets stick to this no golden goal, if its a draw its a draw

Ste's post above seems to sort out any problems?
i think you'll find the shuffles suggestion was mine ;)
re the payment, discretionary free play kinda goes against what i discussed with neil when we were still negotiating the use of PH. when we enter the realms of asking people for money, it's kinda the same as bike safety in a way. for example, if we insist people only play if their bar ends are capped, but let someone off 'just for one game' coz they're new and haven't got any end caps, people aren't gonna take the rule seriously enough. similarly, if people turn up and are new, or just skint, letting them off will be undermining the reason we are charging in the first place. i see your point about the first couple of sessions, but imo there is no other reason people should not pay. in any other club type scenario, there might be a special offer for 1 or 2 free sessions, but after that it's strictly no pay no play. it sounds harsh but if we're gonna make the MHBPA work financially, we need to be a little stricter. also, imo if people are gonna want to take up a game like polo, £2.50 for a 3 hour floodlit session isn't really gonna put them off (i used to pay £3 for a one hour lesson of lindyhop ffs!?). -

Yoav i know you hate newbies but for me im happy paying and letting people play for free untill they get serious. I am just grateful of the floodlit court to be honest and £2.50 is nothing
tell you what, i cant make it this thursday so someone can have my place for free!

ste, there's no need to be a cock in response to what i think is a pretty fair point.

just gonna squeeze my 5p in here. i think it'd be a bad idea to hassle the 1st or 2nd comers for £2.50 at their first or second session. if they turn up regularly (say several times a month) then yeah, but lets give people a few sessions without having to get into their pockets. it'll just create awkwardness. being militant about upholding rules will create people thinking they're policemen (which we don't want) and animosity towards same (which we don't want either). Can't we try and run with slightly slacker rule upholding for a little while and then tighten up later, rather than go in too hard now and scare people away? I'll happily chip in more than the £10 a month, if that's what's needed.

just gotta hope it's still not even score after that, but yeah i agree

not trying to be millitant, just saying we need to think more about the financial aspect/funding if the MHBPA is going to work. i agree the first 2 sessions should be free but pay after that. just my opinion though and i appreciate it won't be the only one. -

anyway, on a different note, i was speaking to a guy tonight who's into photography and is rather good imo. i've met him before and talked about him coming down to take some pics and he seemed quite keen. completely forgot until i saw him today, but he seemed up for coming down on thurs. i said i'd run it past everyone so what do you guys think? could be good to get some decent shots for the website...
-
• #6663
Yeah if there's no catch i.e money...
-
• #6664
said we'd buy him some beers, but 4 cans o' kronenberg for some decent pics aint a big price. i'll even pay myself if people don't want to.
edit: he seemed more interested in getting some shots in the carpark tbh, liked the idea of the 'urban' setting. maybe we could head there after PH?

Yoav just make sure he doesn't step on the court or you'll have to charge him!

Don't think we should play up to some sort of preconception or stereotype of "Urban" polo players... don't know what he wants the photos for... never know could be for a Daily Mail piece on "feral polo youth" who hang around terrorizing car parks at night.....!
If Moss Side isn't "Urban" enough for him then tough.....

has anyone give any thought to my suggestion of separating a bit of the court so that spectators could be inside PH too?

I dont think its a good idea paul, playing the game is more important than spectating plus if you stand in the middle you can see ok anyway, just think its too much effort for what its worth
Sorry Yoav I Shouldn't of. At the end of the day I personally think At this moment in time With all due respect we have a fairly unique opportunity here that we should absolutely make the most of it. At the moment It's a nightmare, i wish we could play polo 24/7 so lets progress together, It's not rocket science
lets stick to this no golden goal, if its a draw its a draw
