  • anyone up for going down PH a bit earlier?

  • been thinking about how to make throw ins/shuffles fairer, given that so many people are now coming down on a thursday, so we all get a decent number of games. have come up with the following, which is not exactly original, just a couple of tweeks on the existing process:

    • when enough people for a game are there, do a grand shuffle for as many games as possible
    • any people not shuffled, are guaranteed into the first game of the next grand shuffle, and the rest of the mallets are shuffled in after that
    • if someone arrives after a grand shuffle, they're not allowed to put their mallet in until the next grand shuffle and are not automatically guaranteed a game out of their first shuffle. this will encourage people to turn up at the start of the session.

if we do the above, i reckon everyone who comes at the start of the session will get roughly the same amount of play and no-one will be out of play for more that 2 games.

    discuss!

  • sounds good, we should split the mallets up in the fence in rows too so all mallets stay on court and its easy to tell who's next and keep them organised

  • Good ideas, im thiking about it and will contribute but sometime you need to be at the ram and shackle shiiiiiiit

    +1

Also only have mallets being played with in the fence, no spares or extras... Then there's no confusion about which mallets to shuffle...

All spares and extras should be kept outside the court...

hey, stop nicking my words! ;)

def agree with the loads of spares on the court causing confusion, but if we all bring whatever spares we have, we should have enough for all the newbies. that way, as newbies arrive they can choose their mallet for the night and then be in every throw in. like the way we're gettin so many people we have to start thinkin of this shit though. mcr polo is BACK!!

  • It's depressing me reading how many people are getting out to polo these days! I need to get a job that doesn't require me to work nights!

  • Ok i dont want to slag off the PH but it sucks for watching polo. Who else thinks so?
i want to do something about it and i have a couple of ideas #1 being laying some wood horizontally across the court at the door end, to give us a place to spectate, though boards will keep the ball in play*. other idea is to put one big diagonal corner where the door is.

What do you think about this?

*we can pass the ball back if it bounces over

  • Lots of people have gone to the BFF tourney in London but i still want to play polo so i'm going to try and get as many together as i can today. Does anyone her want to play Sunday at 2 in Whitworth or Platt Fields if raining?
    Suggestions welcome

Sunday 2pm location to be decided on

  • just wanted to check that people are cool to do the beginners polo at platt fields on sunday 24th october 4pm- 6pm. spoke to ben, chan and mirek about this a while ago...i could maybe bring a couple of shitty bikes for people to play on if necessary, do people have spare mallets to lend out? if not i can make some this week....

  • I was wondering if anyone knew where to get ski poles for mallets? Jeff and I want to make some for ourselves:)

You woulda gloved em in!? or brought your newley purchased inflatable HAMMER down on them.

  • ok think we need some rules for powerhaus IMO they need to be

    payment:
first and second time new people come its free also free sessions after that at peoples discretion (we don't want to put people off and do you really want to start charging that kid in the blue jumper or Danielle for example).

People are warned they will have to pay when they show up for their second session

    shuffles:
everyone there on time gets into the first grand shuffle, anyone after that goes in the pile for the next grand shuffle NOT the next game.

if you turn down a game to eat etc you are NOT automatically in the next game, wait until the next grand shuffle

left over mallets from the grand shuffle not in multiples of 6 go into the pile that IS defiantly in the first game of the next grand shuffle

    sound ok? simples

  • the mallet shuffling is complicated, i was thinking about it and thought we needed 3 rotating piles, etc. why dont we meet up and talk about it tomorrow night?

don't know what 3 rotating piles means, but Ste's post above seems to sort out any problems? That's how it worked when i played at Downham and it seems to work OK?
Still another week before I can get to PowerHaus for the first time! is Sunday polo at PowerHaus?

  • Should be PH

Sounds good to me... are we still of a view that the last hour should be for team play? By that I mean existing MCR teams and any new teams that wish to form (maybe just for the night) have priority - so that we can ensure we always have some more competitive action at each session through the winter.

Comments on the first two hours too... it'd be good for the 'senior' players to 'practice' their passing games to bring new players on faster.... it's in everyone's interest! Similarly, shouldn't the first two hours be 10 minutes every game (not first to 5) - incidentally, the BFF tourney ran like this and, in our case, it means that everyone gets full games for their money.
