  • Yes - I got the website together on the basis that the existing one couldn't be readied in time for the Fresher flyers/fayre which started this morning. I guess we pull it come Friday.

The 'promotion' running at the Freshers Fayre was inviting newbies to come and play a one off Freshers session this Thursday from 5pm onwards (with an optional Sand Bar social after dark). The thinking here is to strike whilst we are in their minds - and not to wait two weeks when alcohol would have taken its toll.

Obviously a good friendly turnout would be cool on Thursday...!

  • PH update - Tuesday... missed the Ops Manager as he was at lunch when I left the Freshers Fayre. Picked up an email from him later which says he's tested the lights and one complete unit on a pole is not functioning, requiring repair. We now await a time on this.

I went back at 4.30 to discuss whether we can still play with 3 lights but he had already gone home for the day.

Will ring him tomorrow to continue the saga....

  • Ok so when new people turn up, what should we do?

  • Ok so when new people turn up, what should we do?

Smother them with polo lurve...??! Maybe we should chip in and buy a ruck of beers and crisps... pineapple cubes on sticks maybe...

  • thats good neil
im also thinking of what sort of polo games we could play.. different style of games maybe, dunno the possibilities but i think we could have some unusual fun at polo. I dont mean one or the other... normal games too

  • PH Update Wednesday...

Went to meet with the Ops Manager to discuss pricing - here's the situation:

PH initially wanted £25 per 2 hour session (including lights).

I have explained that we couldn't afford this due to the number of regular players and the infancy of our 'association'. I made a tentative counter bid along these lines (which was well received):

MCR Polo to guarantee 10 players per session each paying the equivalent of £1.50 ie. £15 per session.
That the sessions would be 3 hours (6.30-9.30pm) duration - not 2 hours.
MCR Polo would agree to book 22 Thursday night sessions (clock change to clock change) as part of the contract.
MCR Polo would pay monthly in advance.
That we would be able to hold a key, be guaranteed rights to play on the Thursdays and to be able to play any daylight time not booked to another group.

In summary, we would need to be able to commit to raising £330 for the period outlined above - 10 paying players (or equivalent) x 22 sessions. This is the equivalent to £5 per hour compared to £12.50 per hour (£550 for the 22 sessions at £25 per session) initially offered and, as such, represents good value IMHO for a superb facility.

Once we are organised as a group I'm sure we can raise enough revenue to be able to run this winter scheme in 2011 without having to pay - through tournaments, merchandise and subs/donations/sponsors - but for now, we don't have many options!

We now have to make a decision whether we as a group can afford this, can commit to the contract period and have a method of paying in good time.

Please give your feedback here ASAP as we have a window of opportunity to put our offer to their Board this Friday for approval.

  • IMPORTANT - CAN ALL MCR POLO PLAYERS READ AND GIVE FEEDBACK ON THE POWERHOUSE WINTER SESSIONS DISCUSSION, HERE - http://www.lfgss.com/thread46066-2.html - ASAP!

  • i think we can defiantly agree with that if he does,
the first deal was good enough for for a definite, nice lit court.

  • sounds great, i'm def in! £1.50 each for a 3 hour, floodlit polo session is cheap as chips, plus it'll be cheaper if the recruitment drive pays off and we get more players. can i just clarify though, is the option there to play for longer than 3 hours if we give them advanced notice and pay a little extra?

The curfew is 9.30pm because of neighbour complaints about the power of the lights - no other reason. We can play other nights - but I think we ought to consolidate first with regular attendance of 10 or more before we expand.

If more than 10 come to any of the winter sessions, then I'd suggest that we still pay/collect the £1.50s and roll it forward for the inevitable weeks when less than 10 turn out. I'll have to ask if we can void any sessions due to ice/snow etc. - but I'd assume so.

Sundays are free to use anytime without lights of course.

  • This is perfect, we won't get a better deal for a guaranteed floodlit court. I'm in. Nice work Neil.

  • Super work on making a counter-offer which they liked(?) it is a great deal !! I hope they bite!!
I agree to pay my share and im definetly going to be around all winter making the most of it .
    Again, Superb work Neil!

  • im up for paying for it, definitely. is the new price £15 per session regardless of player numbers?

edit: i should probably elaborate on that. if there's less than 10 players for a session, we'd probably still need to pay the £15, no? i dont have a problem paying at all, i just can't commit to coming down every thursday with my work rota. that said, i have no problem paying for sessions knowing i cant make them.

  • I'm in. great polo times. I'm so happy :-). Thanks Neil. Great job

  • Mark - yep, we'll be liable to collect £15 per session irrespective of numbers - and I'm proposing that, even when we have 15 or so turning out, that we 'bank' the extra for the inevitable weeks when less than 10 show.

Can we make a list then of players that, all things being equal, expect/will try to pay and play every Thursday through the winter... it's these nominated players ultimately that will have to foot the bill each month, so be prepared to accept that!

I'm working on how we can actually collect the money and have a way of paying in good time that doesn't cripple or embarass any particular individual! I figure we'll have a monthly rota of 'debt collectors'...
