  • My Surly hub uses angular contact cartridge bearings, which are standard size but stocked by noone.

  • Drew is your back wheel sorted now and when can we exchange wheels?

  • Any time you want I can deliver the wheel.

  • Cool sort it at weekend sometime Saturday or Sunday whenever good, can you pm me your number?

  • Does anyone have a on one rear track hub who could measure distance between the bearings for me!? if so please do, PM or post findings.

  • Sorry guys did not realise there was a deadline to let you know what i think and what I can do.

First off I think we should put all our efforts in getting numbers up, improving players abilities and making people aware that Manchester bike polo does exist!
So many people have never heard of it and have been cycling for years in Manchester. It should be something that everyone who cycles knows about, and has seen or had a go at and wants to support even if they dont want to play.

For Manchester polo to have this presence, I think we need...

    Identity - logo
Simple and reconisable, makes us look organised and like we take it seriously

Flyers/ spoke cards/ stickers - with info about court location/ time (maybe just sunday) etc and a monthly social meet up/fund raise opportunity
Thought as we all live in different areas, we could all adopt an area to flyer each and keep on top of. We should all make an effort to talk to anyone we see about Polo when doing this, perhaps we could have a mailing list. Maybe offer to meet up with them to cycle to Powerhouse.

Posters - outside powerhouse court, bike shops, gyms, colleges, universities etc.
    (I have an A4 laminator)

Blog/ facebook page with all the above info, and regular reminders and updates to everyone. Profiles on players in Manchester polo, recommendations on equipment etc.

Workshops for mallet making/ wheel discs/ bike stuff

Then once we have some regulars, or at least numbers of 12-24 every sunday. Then we can get into teams and have team games regularly. This will be the time to start organising a tournament.

An indoor court would be good too, as the weather is rubbish a lot this time of year and puts people off.

Camping Easter time? even if we dont find a nearby court to play in, think we should go anyway!

Can help with any Advertising/ organising stuff and I can take photos.

  • Drew, fancy pairing up? The only thing I appear to have any skill at all at is making other people fall off (sorry chaps!) - I think I'm going make myself highly unpopular if I don't develop any other useful traits soon... the far court is open all the time, although I think someone mentioned it's a wee bit slippier or summat - extra fun??!

On the subject of balls: where does one purchase said spheres??

  • p.s. don't let anyone official see that statement of reliability - the Uni will kick you out in a flash!

  • On the subject of balls: where does one purchase said spheres??

The main source in the UK is RV from Cambridge: http://www.bikepoloballs.co.uk/

I've got one of the pink cold-weather balls from the goody bags at the Cambridge NS tourney, I'm pretty sure there should be a few of use with such spheres.

  • Ya beaut, cheers!

Drew - fancy going halvers on a set? no pinkies in stock at mo but I'm sure we can be co-kings of the Hot Balls come summer.

  • I will have to see how much I spend on Sunday as to whether I can eat and buy balls. I could very well end up with no money.

  • dont buy any balls iv got about 10 at home, there the older lighter ones we used to use but you can have a couple, better than buying them,

Drew i will get that wheel off you at weekend and 'ahem' give you my balls

  • It's like a dream come true.

  • Oh that's so kind, it'll be a genuine delight to hit your balls good sir!

Drew, I'll not be free to hit balls with you until Monday, but let me know if any evenings particularly suit you for next week outside of Official Polo Time and I'll apply in triplicate to The Management.

On t'subject of... Anyone had any thoughts what evening suits best? Tues/Thurs/both??

  • Monday would be good for me. I can be free most evenings unless something needs to be in the day after.

  • We should be back to usual Thursday polo next week

  • FUUUUUUU! Forgot to get a ball.

  • Thanks everyone who has contributed so far, good stuff - last call for input from Scott, Nathan, Andy, Graham, before we rationalise the direction and build a 2012 plan for agreement.

Setting a closing date/day of this Wednesday please.

  • I've been offered the opportunity to drive to Preston in rush-hour to see my Mother In Law tonight. Obviously this is much more appealing than bashing balls with you Drew. :-/

I can ask the boss if Tuesday or Wednesday are OK for me to play out if you're fre either evening?

    Sorry dude :-(

  • Can we send out text to those we're waiting for, the red letter/we'll brake your legs type? It's important people say what they want/think and act to contribute otherwise there's no point including them in future meetings and the like.

  • Im waiting on tyre, hub, spokes to arrive.

  • Rob, Minister for Information and Communication, can you chase the remaining regulars for their contributions ASAP....
