Removed cleaned and refitted the cranks only to notice the problem's in the back hub. Meh, needed doing anyway. I'm lucky it's a cartridge bearing hub but my cold's been getting worse so I'll be there later to chat shit.

• #10655
What've you done to my lovely Surly hub?
-
• #10656
I think it just needs new cartridge bearings, I'll ask Charlie what he's got for it. Neil's offered me an On-One SS rear hub so I'll try and get my own wheels built up.

As discussed amongst us all tonight, please post your individual ideas/wishes/scope for Manchester polo in 2012 - everyone is asked to contribute by next Friday 13th January either post here or via PM to Rob, Chan or Neil.
Please also include any skills or abilities you are prepared to volunteer towards the Manchester polo scene in 2012 eg. you might be a web designer or have spare time for coaching etc.
We all are hoping for contributions from Manchester's other regulars that couldn't be at the meeting tonight, especially Ste, Emma and Andy.
The Manchester polo steering group will collate all the inputs into a comprehensive year plan and re-present in a general meeting to all regulars in early February, prior to any actions being committed to.
I will include my ideas for Manchester as an example in the next post.

Neil's achievable ideas for the Manchester polo group in 2012:
- Grow membership from 10-12 to 22-30 regular players within the year – establish new teams/network with other cycle clubs/groups
- Manage and fast track the improvement of new players – training/coaching/make sure new players stick with it through the early stages
- Find other court options (Summer/indoor etc)
- Host a Manchester NS tournament – leading to UK or European Champs in 2013??
- Get 3+ Manchester teams to qualify for the Euros and/or the Worlds – training programmes/fitness
- Find ways to collect funding for polo costs eg. website/courts – through merchandise/tournaments/subscriptions etc
- Improve social side – quarterly social events/Xmas dinner/awards/mallet building etc
- New identity – regular marketing/recruitment programmes/sponsors/links with the Manchester bike establishment/better local communications
- Schools – outreach programmes for kids in return for use of facilities
I'm able to contribute weekday time for meetings/representations eg. councils/landowners/cycle bodies; access to various design and production resources; and am a competent marketing and business planner.

i can break these

Is it an SS disc hub? Always handy to be prepared for the future. Either that or build it with a braking surface on the rear.
Is the back wheel still nice and straight? If so I'll be doing some rim swappage. I'm going to try some discs because I think I can get some half decent mechanicals for free. If they're shit (as previous experience would say) then it's easy enough to swap back to Vs
Want me to build your new set or you gonna give otters here
a beersome port? -

mechanicals are shit unless they are avids, i can break wheels for damn near free too
-
• #10663
Yeah, but only BB7's. I've tried BB5's and they were worse than a V. I will make a dual hydraulic system one day.
-
• #10664
i like my bb7s, need some way of them not being adjusted by other peoples tyres though
-
• #10665
Remove the adjusters. Simples.

a beersome port?Dunno, will see what turns up! Once I've replaced the bearings I think the wheel will be fine, the rim's straight, only has a couple of battlescars. It's been a long time since they were run without covers so I assume the spokes are straight.
The Schwinn is brakeless at the rear but if you want to practice you could swap these bodgeouts for track ends with disc mounts.
I want to try doing at least the lacing up myself but it depends how hard it is to get the parts I want.

I will put myself forward to do the website, we have been working this week on a design and I promise it will happen in a short agreed time-frame this time, I will start a new thread about the website showing the proposed style soon so we can all chip in with ideas and content if that's ok with everyone

i have dual BB'5 and there really good, low lever resistance, endo easly, skid easily and the pair was £30
a trials guy in Edinburgh at the house we stayed at had dual hydraulic disks, i was drunk and couldnt really figure it out but from what i remember he had a larger master cylinder off a motorbike that both breaks went to and it just sort of evened out the force between them equally, not much front rear modulation though i guess

I think that would have been Colin. From what I've learnt in my research that would be a lever from a trials moto. I know what and how I just haven't got the money to do it.

Chan's achievable ideas for the Manchester polo group in 2012:
-Increase size of group via recruitment
-Clean Up PH Court (remove moss, etc)
-Look for new courts
-Work towards an NS tourney
-Sort out new identity
-Nurture new players
-Get people into teams
-Have separate sessions for beginners
-Team nights/days/weekends etc..I think we (just manchester) should go on a polo retreat in the spring somewhere. Camping and polo = win

Ste:
Its great that you are prepared to offer your time to work on the website, however the idea of the organisational structure we agreed on is that first; we (all of manchester polo) put forward a list of things you would like to see happen/be acheived in the next year (more players, more courts, new goals etc) and an outline of the skills we can offer.
From this input the committee (Neil, Chan, Rob) decide the goals to focus on and the best way/best people to acheive them.
So by all means offer your skills, but also tell us your wants for MCR polo, the idea is that we do things by commitee with central organisation striving to acheive the goals of the whole MCR community and not that people just decide to do something on their own and go off and do it... does that make sense..?

ste's achievable ideas for the Manchester polo group in 2012 (in that order)
- big drive to get more players
- Nurture new players
- Get people into teams
- Sort out new identity
- Look for new courts (for summer more social environment)
- Host a summer outdoor NS tourney
- have a mini Manchester league (once we have at least 4 full teams)
I would also like to put myself forward to do the website
+1 for camping! that would be wicked
- big drive to get more players
I'll bring the freewheel tool. cant polo though so will stash it at the court, or ring me if I can give it to someone in town.
