For those of you desperate to get a fix of Herne Hill racing over Easter, the Portsmouth Easter Open has been moved there the day after Good Friday.

Shame ,those big stayer bikes are a proper spectacle.

Only just paid attention to what this is about. As much as I want to and probably will go and see the racing at Lee Valley, I really am disappointed. Even when it's bloody freezing, this is always the nicest start to a long weekend in South London. Ho-hum!

Hi paramounted, I can't go into the details, but we too have always had an affinity to Herne Hill on Good Friday, over 100 years in fact, but we are where we are. All we ask is that our supporters come with us to Lee Valley. Yes, I know that it will cost a bit more to come and watch, but that doesn't go into our pockets, it helps to pay for the hire of the venue, their professional stewarding requirements, rapid response medical aid etc.etc. Our main concern was to keep the meeting going for the riders who love it and our loyal supporters. If we were wrong then I'm sorry. I think that we have done our bit for Herne Hill over the years and will continue to do so. All we ask for now is a little bit of support in return.

I do sympathise, of course and will likely end up at Lee Valley next week anyway.
Thanks for the response. -

This year's meeting continues in its tradition of having club riders mixing it with the top elite pro riders. Topping the bill is Ed Clancy, two time Olympic Gold medallist, Olympic Bronze medallist and 5 time World Champion!

You can buy tickets in advance from Quay Tickets via the website www.bristowevents.co.uk or you can take a chance and turn up on the day to buy a ticket on the door.

30 average mph in the heats today, any results yet?

The highlights for me were:
Andy Tennant celebrating his win at the Super Elimination, when actually he was out a few laps ago.
Ed Clancy put on a great show when the dernies came out.
Vojtech crashing, again, then getting back on the bike and carry on, like nothing happened. HTFU in full effect. -

gutted I came late and missed Vojtech crashing again... would have been worth the entry fee alone.

always enjoyed the Good Friday meet at HHV but have to say it was equally brilliant at the LVV. 20 notes seemed steep to get in but straight away saw HillBilly mixing it witht the big boys in the sprint and got my monies worth instantly.
Vojchek, Jim and Niki did BC proud. awesome 3rd in one of the races from Vojchek after he took a massive spill. heroic stuff.
watched most of it solo before bumping into fluff and leo. and then ultracrepidarian, cliveo and dicki. cheers for the company folks.
without a shadow of a doubt jimbilly is the fastest beard in london - good work sir.
well done dimi in that long final race - you were really in the mix and was good to cheer you on

Thanks Jonny! I heard people were cheering me on, but could only see dicki and Ramaye for a split second. That scratch race didn't work out quite as planned. Still, not bad for a first race on boards.

Nice one dimi and Jim!

I don't know any of the riders yesterday (apart from recognizing the famous ones) but I came down from Carlisle to go to the meeting. My first time at the Olympic Velodrome (and Westfield shopping centre!) and had a great time. Enjoyed it very much. Derny race was spectacular.

What a cool day - I wish I knew enough people off of here to have recognised anyone there... and a big thanks to rider no. 94, Philip Ryan (Adams Town IRELAND), whose sisters couldn't make it and whose dad gave us their seats. Sorry you didn't win anything, Philip.
I took some crappy photos and a video, here they are:

Dernys on parade: http://i.imgur.com/ZsahFv5.jpg
The derny paced race. Ed Clancy is in black+pink behind the derny with the red helmet, and he was laughing the whole way round: http://i.imgur.com/w80SlKS.jpg
This video gives a sense of how fast it was. Just before the end of the video you can see the leaders come round again: http://twitpic.com/e1j8pl
And here's the speed on the board - 141.788km/h, can that be right? http://i.imgur.com/yaxAU4y.jpg
The womens sprint. Nicky Degrendele takes a look back before kicking with about 400m to go and winning easily: http://i.imgur.com/ZFQDjhQ.jpg

Are the results up anywhere yet?

Thanks peeps. Was a really good day of racing, is amazing being on the track at the same time as the people you see racing on the tele. What's even better than that is having people cheer you on from the crowd, that really made my day.
Thank you all, I hope to get a little faster next time. Also massive shout out to Voj for getting back up and pushing on in that race, I know a lot of people who would have just called it a day.

I really want to see you wearing this helmet, Jim:
Can you borrow it off your clubmate? :)

Results by secret handshake only?

You're a star thanks!
Falling through the nice scandinavian pine would be more of an issue.
