Can we pop along to the jumble for free? £12 to have a root through the spares boxes for a £1 bolt seems a bit steep.
-
• #28
go to another bike jumble

You could always volunteer as a steward through Bristow and then watch the racing for free...

For God's sake
We are lucky the meeting is happening at all ! Its always a big risk , if you look outside you can see why..
Stop moaning, it will be a lovely afternoon with top racing and your money will support Herne Hill... -

your money will support Herne Hill...
Not directly as such, because Bristow Events put this on, not HHV/VCL but Good Friday has always been "the" herne hill event. I think this year will see extraordinary spectator numbers.
It does cost a lot of money to run, and that's why it costs money to get in.

I totally appreciate that it is hard to fund and to organise grass roots level events, and I know the entire velodrome runs on good will and time in kind alone - good will and time in kind I have given myself freely in the past.
I just thought it was a lot of money for a standing event in the open air for what is supposed to be as much a community facility as it is an elite venue.
.A. It's not a grass roots event, it's an international track meeting where you will see professional riders and members of our national squad.
B. it's a community facility for the other 99.9% of the year.

has always been money and time well spent

Massively looking forward to it, should have a small cycling contingent down from the rugby club. What time do the gates open for the jumble and can you bring beer (not a deal breaker)?
Sorry if I've missed this info already but reading from my phone.

11am for the sprint and handicap heats then 1pm for the main event, finishing around 5pm.
Great - thanks.

You can bring a picnic and the finest wines or beers
Yes, it 's not a charity and the profits or losses go to Graham Bristow ; but the event does support HH and your being there for Good Friday and any other events makes sure HH will stay in use.
Being at HH is about being part of the history of cycling in London. It is , I think, the only remaining facility from the 48 games still in use. You might even see Tommy Godwin who won a bronze medal there in 48!
Coppi, Anqeutil and Simpson all rode there. John Summerhayes from my club , if he's there, can tell you the story of how he saw Coppi ride at HH
So whatever the weather- go to the Good Friday meeting!

Again, probably a stupid question but I couldn't see anything on the HH website, is the jumble definitely on?
-
• #38
Yep, it on the flyer and posters, check out lmnh to check out what's there
-
• #39
Is there beer?
-
• #40
might anyone have any digital copies/photos of these fliers - I am using the presence of a jumble to convince some people. I will be there whatever
-
• #41
If you wanted a free jumble you should have been there on Sunday like I was.
-
• #42
I know, not concerned about paying in, glad to for the racing. some folk have just asked me to confirm it's on and a flier saying so will be easy to stick in front of their faces
had my folks over last weekend or I would have been there too

Fenella and I have our tickets, this sadly means that rain is 100% confirmed.
-
• #44
No rain forecast. Bit chilly but nothing unseasonal.
-
• #45
stopped being lazy and conducted a google image search
-
• #46
Aha. I see the word 'Ale' on the poster. Good.
-
• #47
And the beer is excellent and tastes all the better for being drunk outdoors on a day off.

Only £12. A real bargain for a whole day's top class sport.
Paid £65 for 90 minutes top class football last night at Stamford Bridge.
My sums were never good but £12 for a whole days seem much cheaper than £65 for 90 minutes. Mind you, Mark, you wouldn't have wanted your mum to hear my language at some points last night. I will, however, be very well behaved tomorrow.
