  • just checked it with a frontwheel. looks like its straighter then i thought it was.

i'm taking the morning off of doing more important stuff to build it. watch this space...

  • Noooooooooooo…… :(

  • Why didn't you just fit an already drilled fork? sigh

  • You broken my heart :(

  • got a gazelle baanfiets sat in my living room...

I couldn't ever bring myself to drill the forks - I'm going to try and fabricate one of these -

  • Fancy a Panto Atax Gazelle stem for your herd?

  • thanks but no thanks.. had one but sold it, not too keen on the "soft" (visually!) finish..

anyways, i haven't updated the thread due to slackery, and it looks like the bike hates me a bit for taking a drill to its pretty face..

there had already been problems with the seatpost in back in 2012 due to fucked clamping ears in which a normal seatpost bolt doesnt fit anymore.

the 3ttt seatpost, after quite some shenanigans, did sit firm in the frame by the end of the whole sharade.

after swapping it for the ratty 7410 seatpost with the new build, it didnt, and doesnt want to anymore..

i've resorted to ordering a 27.4mm kalloy seatpost to try to rectify the problem without having the address the hardware malfunction. tell me if this is stupid.

if this doesnt work, i could resort to external clamps on the seattube, maybe with even having to grind off what is left of the ears.

last option would be to get new ears welded on. "Shame", if itld get to that, anyone around here who'ld do that?

let me know your thoughts. ill get a pic up asap

  • driveshot

    brake is nice'n'centre..

grolsch can shim. works a treat. dang ugly.

  • she sure is more ugly.. ahead stem is temporary till i fit the other seatpost to test my position. the one on there is now 120mm, i have a 110mm quill stem lying around which would possibly be suitable because i think the seatpost i'm expecting has more layback. then some perforated black tape is going on.

i quite like the look with the "modern" rims and gumwalls, but one notices a difference in riding comfort with the other wheels which had wider rims. i'll switch the wheels one time to see if i like it more. then i'll probably shift these ones for ideally 7710's to hplussons tb14 or the like.

she isnt as pretty anymore, but way more practical. do have to get used to the toe-overlap again, had a comedy fall-over once already..

  • new guise. quill stem and bartape.

itll need some tweaking still but looks miles better.
27.4 post didnt fit, scratched it to buggery in the process so thats 18 quid down the drain but the grolsch can shim with some aesthetic tweaks works like it should.

now ride it for a bit and see how it feels.

  • Hope it rides like it looks, as it looks amazing. Seem a little to small for me, but nearly a perfect build.

  • fanks pepe!

stem is too short though, so i will now get a salsa 120mm curtosy of larrywhite on here. its a risk, but i think it will look a-awesome with the rainbow decals and black decals on the frame.

hhsb but then tasty, i hope..

  • I am a big fan of Salsa stems, but not 100% sure it would work with this build. Try to get something similar in silver, like sumo uses with drops on his Makino. They look very similar.

  • Looks great like this.

I'm gonna rep you for going full skrtluv on the haterz and drilling the forks. That Salsa ain't going to work though, sell it to me.

  • I agree, even as the seller I will admit that a Pro Chrome would look better than the Salsa on this build.

  • ^^ha tom. biek 4 lyf innit?!

pepe, arun, i did consider the pro chrome, but decided against it.

i quite enjoyed the setup with the threadless syntace and the black stem idea sticked. the only period correct part on the frame now is the stem and ild like to go full '90s and the salsa fits that bill.

i trust itll look well. maybe the only change afterward would be to get a black synchros seatpin or something..

  • As long as you think of me when you realise it doesn't work.

It's strange but it still looks like that bike is set up for someone much shorter than I remember you being.

  • sure will

funny thing, i had the same thought just now when just laying eyes on your 61cm c-c gw. im 1m80, but only 30,5" inseam. plus i think i also like my bikes small somehow.

  • well pro innit?!;)

  • I do like that, the bars work, i would say silver rims though

  • ^that has sparked a thought.

i could get mavic a319s a pair for 60 euro all in and erds are close enough to re-use the spokes. wide rims, bombproof, keep da's, sell off ofmega.

ill give that option a thought..

  • Wide rims are great, personally id get nicer pedals but i'm just being picky because i still want to buy it :P

  • ^i know.. if the holes of either wheelset wouldve lined up the rims wouldve already been swapped..

suntour superbe with mks double straps not nice? (i know plastic cages look like garbage but they don't eat into my shoes)

  • Plastic toe clips just don't look right, these are quite nice if you want some real secure doubles http://www.kinokocycles.com/double-toe-clips-1.html
