im in love....
did a round on the 753 yday as i finished it (bar a little polish on left pedal and addition pc toestraps).
i think ill struggle attaching an image from phone (no internet due to housemate not paying bills so on mobile internet) but i reckon ill at least get a link posted..
ill start with a pedal room parts list:
f/f: 1977 gazelle champion mondial reynolds 753
i havent seen one yet this old and in good nick. real rare.. its a 54 c-t with 54 tt. original paint too..
headset: campagnolo super record
handlebar/stem: crest cinelli gimondis, 40cm c-c/old style amd rare 1R with full cinelli script and oval logo
brake handles/brakes: nr with og hoods, super record
shifters: simplex, a common upgrade to the campags
bb/cranks: i think bb is sr, cranks are nr, 52/48 hard baller
pedals/clips/straps: nr, christophe, white lapize straps
fd/rd: nr, sr
seat/pin: og cinelli unicanitor, 27.0 sr
wheels: campag record with the straight qrs on ma-2s
rims are not pc but at this point i didnt give a damn anymore..really chuffed with it.. such a shame to have to sell it to fund my last semester of uni..
what you reckon its worth? yeah i know there is a dedicated thread but i thought ild just test the water..it also looks so good on the wall next to her nonidentical twin 77 track who are each others inverses; nothing bar the colour brake cable is identical.. ill do a shoot with them both when i have some itime and my new camera..

So when are you selling me the Gazelle track :P
(i wont give up!)

gents,
i need your advice. won't be able to do it for a while because of time constraints because i want to effin' TOTALLY finish my degree this month, but some time to make my mind up would be nice.
i think i need to consolidate. moneywise, spacewise, etc. make the most of the oncoming changes in my life.
predicament #1: road bike.
current project: 200? columbus airplane frame. unknown taiwanese. custom diy paointjob involving geometrics, black and fluo yellow. design still in the works
i'm a pair of brifters away (preferably new form centaur) of completing the "gruppo" consisting of lower end campag; Veloce UT crankset, Mirage/Veloce mechs, noice wheelset of Neutrons.Current roadbike: '94 Gazelle 731OS, really nice...
as you see; really beautiful...
Chorus/record stuff and triple comp cranks and fd.
Real nice but i haven't used it much. Frame will be worth CASHMONEYZ in a couple months. stainless stays and forks too.So, i could merge these two. the gazelle is great but ild like to go more modern with crabonz, ahead etc.. also, ild like the new shape shifters because i dont really like the shape of the record ones..
i could strip gazelle and build up airplane to try. ild preferebly fit the compact UT's to that.. then decide if i could or would sell the gazelle.. or is it such a special one im crazy of thinking to swap it for something quite generic (but quality).2nd predicament: track bike/road fixed
i have '77 gazelle 531
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11296434/Bike%20show%20offing/2013-06-25%2021.32.02.jpg (big picture)
(orange one)
full period ofmega, beautiful bike. rides a dream, geo is superfun. sorry for the mega picture.track bike but more road fixed bike #2, donohue built gw, 731OS
my day to day bike. stem is now a jag to drop my position. could be even lower..
this geo is more relaxed; slack headtube, no toe overlap etc.. full da 7710/7410. i think the frame is somewhat too tall; hence the deep drop jag with bulls.so, my predicament here is that the gazelle is superfun and superbeautiful. quite ratty though, which opens potential.
donohue is rad/rat, but a bit big and geo is too slack for real fun.. gruppo is perfect; ill last a couple of decades with it hopefully..so; seeing as i simply can't afford anymore to have a hang about bike like the gazelle is right now, im thinking of merging them..
so, best of both worlds; transfer DA to Gazelle, plus rack, bulls etc. then possibly keep wheels because they noice and i love the rims. sell off beautiful 70s stuff. i feel the difference between the da 7710 cranks and the ofmegas on campagnolo centaur though; da's so much smoother..
ild basically end up with a frankenbike. im even thinking of selling off the donohue without forks and fit them to the gazelle for extra comical effect and brake hole. rake is about the same; 32mm to mental 25mm of the gazelle. apparently gazelle fork is also not drillable because of to little clearance. i reckon some would hang me by the balls too if i would.other option would be to swap gazelle for a&p's vivalo if he's still up for it and have a bike that would be similar ride and on which the da would aesthetically fit.
do not know if a fluorescent viv as daily ride would be a good idea though.. (im not in london but bike theft is an important consideration 'ere in NL)do love the donohue purple though. its sparkly...
so. as from above novelle you see my dilemma. what do you think?
-
• #59
I think don't put the unicrown Donohue forks on the Gazelle!
I would split the Gazelle and get rid of the nice 70s parts, and then keep the Donohue as it is for a nice runaround unless the size actually makes it uncomfortable.
-
• #60
Still would love that Gazelle track, not sure i'd part with Vivalo though, very fond of it now, plus my mate would kill me!
But, maybe, Vivalo could possibly be drilled to.
-
• #61
I would 100000% keep the gazelle over the Taiwanese frame.
-
• #62
I'm not convinced by the road Gazelle's colour scheme. Maybe paint that some crazy flouro design.
-
• #63
Gazelles, keep em both. Forget about the rest. Sell off DA as you won't get as much for the 70's stuff and buy some cheap sealed wheels for winter/fun/hack.
-
• #64
The blades of the forks on Gazelle track are beautiful.
You'll regret selling that.
-
• #65
Don't say that, he wants to sell it to me.
-
• #66
That Gazelle track is lovely and understated. Don't sell it you'll regret it. Ive got the same in colour and year but geared. I'd love to make it a pair.
-
• #67
thanks for the considerations guys.
i think i will build the gazelle with the parts of the donohue and see how it feels before i make my decision.likewise i'm also aching to build the airplane frame to try it at least..
i'm too much of an anti-respray pro-patina police on here to even contemplate respraying the gazelle 731. its still in great nick and besides that the colourscheme is also not 100% to my tastes, i do think it is a-awesome.i'll probably build the gazelle track then this weekend or possibly the next, depending on work and hangovers induced by wanting to relieve pressure besides the hard work.
p.s. jaw, show me yours please? he was once part of the two egged contrast twins which are now sadly seperated....
-
• #68
chris, i'm keeping the da no matter what. so smooooooooothhhhh.. the ofmega is beautiful, especially the cranks are a work of art. i don't really want to sell it.
fuck being poor... -
• #69
Black bar tape, the modern campag, and carbon threadless forks for the Gazelle, reckon the blue/yellow paint would look amazing with that build.

p.s. jaw, show me yours please? he was once part of the two egged contrast twins which are now sadly seperated....
Mine is a re-badged wonder, once part of the vd Velde stable. Lovely bike but needs a lot of work to do it justice, plus there's a crack in the seat tube that's been there for at least 4 years. Need to dig out some pictures.

fork is 1 1/8". was actually bought thinking it to be 1" for the gazelle; they are gazelle stickered ones in same blue as frame which would have been perfect but alas. still had them so decided to stick them on the airplane.
i'll be in touch on here bout whats happening
-
• #72
so. i had decided already and after a lot of slacking i did something daunting today..
I DRILLED THE GAZELLE FORKS
nerg at will but the forks are already quite battered and clamp on sucks.
used a pillar drill and all but still not convinced its 100% straight. but good enough. i mostly use my legs anyway..
now to transfer parts of gw to gazelle and start consolidating.looking fwd to the fun on the gazelle
p.s. attached picture is drilled jobbie. condolences please through pm
