The similarly-shaped Nitto M106 bars have cable grooves, but they are silly money compared to the Bontragers.

Indeed. Just ordered a pair from Evans, price matched from All Terrain Cycles, meaning that the Bontrager ones are £16.50 including delivery.

Oh really? i need two more pairs, i will get that price match on the go
-
• #131
Yeah, just use their internet price match (click on the price match bit on this page: Bontrager SSR VR-C Handlebar | Evans Cycles).
And the link you need to give them is http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/123770.html -

Now that's got me thinking, why is a pair of handlebars called a pair, and why is it plural? There is only one bar! Maybe there are two handles?
-
• #133
but there a two side of it. I've got the price match on the go just waiting to hear back from them. much cheaper than even my LBS can do, even though they dont have the bloody things in stock
-
• #134
When you say 'even' my LBS, is your LBS particularly cheap or something? Isn't the internet pretty much always cheaper than bricks-and-mortar shops?
-
• #135
well i have three LBS's, and i tend to get around 20% off in two of them.
-
• #136
Oh right. Because you buy a lot of stuff, or because you are so charming? I want a discount.
-
• #137
I used to work in a different bike shop with the owners of one and I'm a regular in the other so they treat me well.

Exactly the same, looks fine. Spent f'in ages trying to do the Biro ting but it didn't work, because when I wrapped the tape on the bars the small bit sticking out the slot with the cable end crimped to it got blocked from moving freely and so it was no good, ah well

I've found that Edwardes Cycles have (so far) a 100% record in being cheaper than the Internet, if you ask them for a quote.

You can also really easily price match anything at cycle surgery so anything there is effectively the cheapest place to get it

The competitor charges £3.99 for delivery which we have to include in the price. If you resubmit the price match and total £20.48 as the competitor price, we will be happy to match this for you.

Oh, I forgot. The Soma Hwy One has cable grooves, sort of - a single groove on the inside front for aero brake cable routing.

£36 from SJS. Still a fair chunk more than the Bontys.

Excuse the thread revival but this is gorgeous, think its time to start my own steel road build.
Excellent work on the metal polishing too, I know how difficult it is!
But you might die...
Anyhow was wondering joe how you stopped your SRAMs from rattling, did you do the Biro trick?
