  • Good work Sam, I'm really looking forward to this.

  • I've been stitched up... now have to go to manchester.

    out.

  • Cheers Sam. I might be difficult and ride out to Farnborough and then get the train back from Bath. Any idea what time we're likely to hit Bath?

Prob. 6 at the latest, barring any disasters!

  • Weather Update

Metcheck is now saying sun, wind in our favour, and a high of 17C!! Dare I say it, perfect conditions?

    shades/lotion > jackets/mudguards

    Ticket booked, proper excited!

  • oh oh, looks like i might have been coopted into collecting middle son from uni on saturday. :-(

  • Pft, let him make his own way back. It'll be a good introduction to the world of grown-ups.

  • Prob. 6 at the latest, barring any disasters!

Cheers. There's a chance I will bail earlier as I'm going to have to get up at ridiculous o'clock to ride to the start and it may kill me, but that should be OK, I am good at getting lost in the wildnerness.

  • So what's the story with the bikes on the trains? First Great Western says to "When you buy your tickets, check if your train has any restrictions on carrying cycles, or if reservations are recommended" but doesn't actually give any information on how to go about doing this, or on how to add a bike reservation to your ticket. Does that mean they don't have any restrictions on our trains?

  • buy from eastcoast.co.uk and book a space online

From experience, it's just a case of chucking them in the seperate bike carriage at the back of the train. It would be incredibly unlucky for it to be full and I can't remember booking a space before?

Looks a bit expensive, that.... from my breif and lazy search

  • Booking tickets for one train operator through a totally different operator! This world is so confusing to me :(

    But booked, ta v much!

Edit to add: East Coast listed the same price tickets as FGW when I checked, so the price has maybe gone up now it's closer to the travel date. I've def booked a space for my bike now so my OCD panic about being left behind because the guard won't let my bike on is now assuaged :-)

  • I've never had any problems with east coast and never found it to be more expensive.
I'm tempted to chance it and not get a ticket though seeing as I'm not 100% convinced of my ability to ride 135 miles at the moment.

  • Hi all,

I am interested in this ride, and I would like to join. This will be my first ride with LFGSS :)

Nevertheless, I would need some information on the way to come back. As far as I understand from your previous mails, we will buy the ticket directly in victoria station in the morning. For the way back, I am trying to buy a ticket from Bristol to London without success. It seems to be a technical problem on the website. Is there any other webiste to buy this ticket? It seems to be several train station in Bristol, which one is the good one?

I am neither lazy, neather idiot. It's just that I am not use to the British trains network.
Help me for this and I could help you for a ride in France :)

    Cheers

  • Hey Easyride.

Train out to Farnborough is from Waterloo - we will sort out tickets in the morning as there are half price offers when you travel in groups of 3 or 4. Fot the return, it's best to book in advance for Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington. Use the link below for tickets costing £18. Don't book a train earlier than 19:30 else we might be in a rush to catch it.

  • Bristol Temple Meads customer services phone number is : 08457000125. Just in case.

  • Thank you very much for your help,

    See you on Saturday

  • Ticket from Bath booked. Now I just need to figure out how to get to the start.
Also can't decide on gears v fixed. hmm.

From my experience the eastcoast site pretty much mirrors what you get on thetrainline etc. but has the advantage of bike booking which none of the others seem to do. Still can't go on this ride.

  • Return ticket booked, no backing out now! And conveniently a puncture on my road bike has forced me to use my heavyweight hybrid... Great bit of last minute resistance training!

  • Don't think I am going to make this - something is up with my left ankle, tried playing around with cleat positions etc over the week but something is not right... :(

  • Daniel san, I am disappoint. You could always follow BBC advice to John Bishop and take loads of drugs and a power bar.

    It worked for him.

  • out :(
    have fun!
