As it seems unlikely that Oliver can attend is there anyone else in this list who is able to lead this group?

Don't panic. If no one is able to take up the reigns the ride will still go on but I'll drop out of the faster group and lead this group instead.

I'm away from the internet for the remainder of the day but will check back this evening.

  • Object, you shouldn't have to do that.
I'm sure with all the smart phones we all no doubt have we'll figure out a way to Beltchley.

  • I am currently suffering man gastric flu, so probably not able to do the fast ride.

I might be able to do the slow ride and would have a garmin. This would be subject to me actually being able to hold any food down.

  • Thanks for the offer James but I'm dealing with known quantities right now.

I now have a working fixed wheel bike for the first time in, well let's not go there.
See you early bird, slower paced sociable riders at 8.00 - We are leaving at 0830 on the dot. I will no longer be in full lycra and am yet to fully think this through (or make a decision on the ride home).

6pt.: The fast group is now yours to break as you wish.

  • that's a shame em...

  • temperature of 102 right now, so not looking too good

unless me in more delirious form than usual is a good idea

  • repost^
    good one tho'

  • I'm worried I might be too slow for the slow group in my current laughably unfit state, so I'm prepared to give up if you have to wait five minutes for me at the top of Hampstead.

  • .
Es are good Es are good, ahh ahh ahhhhh, he's Ebeneezer Goode.

    Anybody got any Vera's? LOOOOVVVEEELY!!!

  • The meeting point for the ride is the church on Warwick Avenue.

This is the route that we are using

(Please note you can download a GPX if that's your thing, if you're awkward and want a TCX PM me your email address before Thursday evening).
For those riding fixed or SS, please check the profile (Show & Elevation Profile on the above link) and select an appropriate gear. The uphill, though not steep, is fairly relentless.

    Leaving at 8.30

Train tickets are £13 for a "cheap day single". Group Save tickets are also available

    Leaving at 9.30
    The fast group - 2×82.85k:
Sub 3 hours out, no wee stops.
6pt reckons he could do it 19–20mph average solo so we'll be looking to improve on that as a group. I will also endeavour to teach him that his choice of unit is inferior.
People doing the fast ride one way will be frowned upon (unless they happen to carry on for a solo century warm down).

    1) 50/14- Winged
    2) Object - Geared
    3) joe smith - geared up to the eyeballs
    4) FridayMarch26th

    FAST GROUP PLEASE NOTE:

Owing to the above riders in the fast group should be prepared to get themselves to Bletchley if they fall off the back. Again self-sufficiency is key.

Unfortunately I think I'm out, which is really annoying because I've been looking forward to this ride.

I strained my back earlier this week and last time I ignored the warning signs to take it easy I put my back out completely and was off the bike for several weeks. Don't want that happening again so I think this weekend is now a rest weekend :(

    Have a great ride everyone.

  • The good news is that I'm finally better today and determined to make it tomorrow. See you all bright and early!

    Object back in Lycra

  • 33mph gusts. Too windy for Zipps?

  • Only if you are chicken.

  • Good news on the stayers! Glad you're probably coming Oliver. Sorry to hear of the dropouts.

    Actually a bit excited.

Early night for me after some fettling...

  • I have cleaned my bike and everything.

  • 33mph gusts. Too windy for Zipps?

    Yikes

  • twinged my knee riding to avebury the other night, so have to bedwet on this. have fun everyone!

  • I haven't decided if I'm going to bedwet on this or not.

I confess to being somewhat put off by things like

"pray for a tailwind", "seriously reconsider your gear choice", "relentless climb", "uphill all the way", and "does anybody have a map"

  • Also "lycra" and "33mph gusts"

  • haha nah it'll all be fine. Once you're out of the city bleakness it's a lovely open ride up to Bletchley and you'll enjoy it. Just a bit lumpy, with some mercenary road choices, on the way out. Wind's no real issue in a group, anyway.

    Yes

    Object back in Lycra

    Yes

Unfortunately Oliver hasn't had time to rec the route so I'm still riding the non-roadie ride.
