The flatter the better, and avoiding potential coastal headwinds is wise too. How do we keep a Garmin running for that long? I suppose we can run one for 8-9 hours, then overlap for a bit - combine the XML files in a text editor later.

Good point I didn't think of that, head winds may be a problem.
Another good point on the Garmin, we'd just have to run 1 at a time I guess. Not ideal.
Other choice would be to run an external battery pack and attach it to my bike somehow. Like those power monkey things.

Just spoke to Colin about this and he's interested as well.

Started this so we don't derail the Strava thread: http://www.lfgss.com/thread78960.html#post2650301

My Garmin lasted 230 miles of Dunwich and back with life to spare, and (just) the 320 of Bristol -> Exmouth -> Poole -> London. But I did that slowly.
Glad to see the thread hijack over, back to pointless competition. Who's got some KOM's they want toppled? I've got time on my hands and need house-leaving motivation. -

Go and clean up in Essex then. The High Beach massif is crying out for it.

just signed up to strava. explains why the blast up from mount pleasant to angel has been even more aggressive than usual. suprised not to see southgate road or essex road north-eastwards on there yet. looks like a pretty awesome way of jazzing up the commute on the face of it.

also, how tf are people doing 60kph on that stretch of the regents loop by the zoo?! explains my worst fears re. casual EPO use in the park.
-
• #85
Same for Balham Hill - some people are apparently going up it at 32mph. Don't believe it. I think some of these segments are created so short that GPS can't accurately measure them.
-
• #86
There are certainly some spurious times/speeds/records on Strava....
-
• #87
It's definitely inaccurate, as I mentioned before, but I suspect there also may be the odd person turning it on for a laugh when travelling by car/motorcycle/etc.

60kph in Regent's park is not implausible.
-
• #89
I've wondered about people using it in cars before. Seems a bit sad to me, but probably happens. Really, it's about racing against your own times, your colleagues' and mates' times, isn't it?

60kph in Regent's park is not implausible.
Yes, but not typically at that bit of the park which is at the end of a slight gradient and usually into a headwind. On the stretch towards baker st 60kph is doable esp. if you've got that tailwind.
-
• #91
You would have thought so, but there are some 100km/h speeds splashed around. At one point, the leader of the base miles challenge had clocked up a road trip around the southern US states!

220kph is though*
*I'll let you know when I'm doing my supercar-paced intervals.

Over mach 1 in the Greenwich foot tunnel is not plausible

What a hero, he's really raised the bar with that time.

And 'Martin Cripps' must be f*cked right off that his 150kph effort was beaten.
-
• #96
Why would someone make a segment out of it?
-
• #97
Don't know but it's quite funny that they have. Segment one of the only bits of that area where you definitely can't get a GPS signal. Fail.

pay lots of money to get demotivated by random people?
I'll have a better look at some maps tonight. Try and get something on the garmin so I can send it over to you.
I'm keen for this to happen though.
My only concerns about that route is the northern coast road can be hilly in places. It just depends what road you take. Will have to look in to that.
