^ This is why I just sold my Garmin. I haven't properly trained with HR and cadence for ages, and if I want HR for TT's I have a much simpler mavic computer to strap on. I just record my rides on the phone for mileage and novelty

I spent too much money on that stuff to just ditch it, even if I would actually feel better without. #principles

Still can't do without them, even if they're unnecessary on short rides and runs.

I don't have anything upfront now, phone stays in my pocket. Less depressing when riding into a headwind!

I often run/ride without checking my Garmin. But I always record efforts.
Its amazing how often you come home from a ride feeling slow and crap. Only to realise you've hit a few PBs. Which is uplifting.
I think the burn from riding With fatigued legs makes me think I'm riding fast. So I feel slower when I'm rested.

is there a cheap way to record GPS for an extended period of time?
(For the Dunwich Dynamo mainly)
my phone doesnt like battery and gets rid of it all as quickly as possible -

Borrow a GPS. If you just want a record of the route you can probably download one that someone else has done.

Get one of those USB battery packs, they're about £20 on amazon I think

GPS units are getting cheaper.

Your phone will log the gps points and not attempt an upload the data until roaming's turned back on. I only got through half of the Dynamo with it turned on but have easily completed similar rides with it turned off (!)

get something like this and run a usb cable from your bag to the device.
they're not as massive as the photos make them look. I have the 9000MaH one and ran my nexus 7 off it for 8 hours on a flight home recently and at the end it was 50% depleted and my nexus has a full charge still and i watched videos pretty much the whole way.

Or a bento box type thing just behind the steerer. Handy for putting food in on long rides too!

Yeah, jelly legs. I want them to do a gran fondo that's more like 300km. So it's a real challenge.

I still won't buy the shitty jersey afterwards though.

i know, march was 160km, which was a push for me at the time, just churning out the same challenges each month isnt exactly going to inspire anyone to go out and achieve something inspirational!
200km at least please

I did 215km for the march one. Just go as far as possible and see how far up the table you get. Doing 540km for the June one. Wish I good believe it would get me near the top. Bet I'm beaten by the hippy s of strava.

• #3124
540km? how long you spending on that?
-
• #3125
I ran 335km in the February MTS. that'll do me for challenges for a while :P
I agree.
I have phone recording on Strava to log miles and save routes I like for future reference, but on the ride I have it in a saddle bag and have no feedback except what my legs and the bike tell me, a much nicer way to ride.
Got sick of breaking cateyes cycle computers and never want one (any type) again
