so frustrating - my knee blew up on a solo ride near Bath today, and in the 10km it took me to realise that it wasn't going to get me home my average dropped from 33.1 to 32.4 :(
I mean, also my knee is fucked so I don't think I can ride for the rest of the bank holiday at least, but for some reason this is more annoying to me right now.

is there anyway to stitch two rides together? My phone cut out half way through a ride today and I ended up having to record a second ride as strava would not let my continue my first one.

I've only been using Strava since January but have gotten seriously addicted! My Panasonic is pretty nippy and there's not many women on Strava so it's frighteningly easy to break the top 10, which just makes me want the QOMs more since they seem so close!

Had a nice ride today, might pop out in a bit and do another bit to do a food shop.

If we're sharing handles then feel free!

You've destroyed me in all stats... except elevation in one go! But then again, I do have a small mountain next door (and I hate hate HATE it)

By the sounds of it, you may as well have been on the turbo trainer.
You were in a beautiful part of the countryside, but you were only focused on a little screen?
This is one (of many) reason(s) why strava is stupid*.
I hope your knee heals up though, take it easy, and try a bit of water based rehab.Scoot- excellent riding, those stats are impressive.
- I'm still just too lazy to use it properly.

Like scoot says, being female gets you loads of QOMs,especially if you ride with guys. It seems to really but them when rides are uploaded & you've just Qom'd & trophied the entire journey. The other day I lost one of my QOMs 'ok, let's see who my competition is & how much quicker they are?'...beaten by 0.2mph by Dani King...I can live with that.

I hope your knee heals up though, take it easy, and try a bit of water based rehab.I take your point, but I'll have to respectfully disagree. The South West is my homeland and one of the most beautiful places in England IMO, and when I ride (especially solo) in a place like that, I like to stop frequently. I had a lovely pause under the shade of Westonbirt Arboretum, had a great bit of coconut cake and wandered around the 13th century church in Sutton Benger and found lovely bits of architecture like this. It's totally possible to ride at tempo, but still enjoy the scenery; even 40kph isn't so fast that you can't look around.
Having said that, my cycling has always been about self-improvement, and getting faster. If I wanted to pootle about in the sun I would have taken my motorbike out. This was a solo training ride in what happened to be beautiful countryside. I've never really been one to tour, or randonee or whatever. That's just my area of interest within cycling - going fast. Strava is a decent way to analyse and record my progress, so it frustrates me when recurring problems like my knee hinder that.
Thanks for the advice though, tbh I thought my knee had healed up so I have been slipping slightly with my stretching. That's probably the reason I was suffering.

I love that area. Had a family friend who lived somewhere outside bath and have always loved it.
Incidentally- I'm fairly similar- though I do enjoy a good relaxed tour as well- when I'm on the road bike I get supremely annoyed if I'm not keeping the right speed up.I suspect, come summer, when I have time to train more properly, I may turn to strava to log it more.
Currently though- I'm just using the occasional TT to see if I'm improving or not. -

North east of Bath is great country for quick riding. And that's a pretty quick ride Morgan.
Sort you're knee out though, you only get two.

Currently though- I'm just using the occasional TT to see if I'm improving or not. It's fucking cracking round these parts. I did a ride over the Christmas period and went past about 3 neolithic sites in 30km. Absolutely brill. Also the people are lovely and the drivers considerate. If it wasn't for my deep-seated love of concrete and free wine, I would still be living in Bath and not London.

Thanks man! I was pretty happy with my pace until that point - although if you look at the elevation profile you might be able to see why. Having said that, I did manage to get 2nd on my first crack at one of the local Cat 4's, so that's alright.
My knee is a recurring problem; I thought it had basically been fixed, so I've been slacking with my stretching. Unfortunately it now seems that I just stretch now, forever, until I die.

Yes to the stretching! Get yourself a foam roller to to ramp up the PAIN!
Thats some good pace though. Nice work. -
• #2920
^ I've actually been foam rollering enough over the last 6 months that it doesn't hurt any more. It's just that if I slack for a couple of days then all my good work goes to shit...

• #2921
Get one of these to start the cycle of pain all over again ;)

Do you know specifically what is causing the issue - can you do some targeted stretches? Or even take up yoga (which I have found to be so much better than just targeted stretches for my knees)
-
• #2922
^ Yeah, I've got a pretty good idea. I see a fantastic physio called Nic at Velophysio - I've outlined my knee issue here. I'm going back to Nic in the next couple of weeks, because I feel like my progress is faltering somewhat.
I intend to take up pilates, as it's been recommended for my specific set of problems. I'm still waiting for my first proper paycheck from my new job, so when that comes in I'm going to have to sign up for a decent gym and a decent pilates program...
-
• #2923
Ah that sounds like an excellent plan™ , no personal experience of pilates - but the difference for me between doing a few isolated stretches on my own to doing 1.5 hours of focused work in yoga has been night and day. I've gone from being grateful when most days my knees felt only wrong, but didn't hurt, to actually not noticing them most of the time. Hope you have a similar experience !!

Doesn't look like it according to the map's contours.
Just came across this... probably old news but still. Wow
