So, this is dead now. I just got a Garmin Edge 800 and I want to put some GPX files on it to be able to follow the routes - I've signed up for a month's premium membership to see if I can grab lots of good routes, but I can't get the data into Garmin Connect (even using a laborious process of converting it to TCX and mucking about with the XML), and I've tried copying the GPX files downloaded from Strava straight to the 800, but they don't seem to be showing up. Am I putting the files in the wrong place (Garmin > NewFiles, or something)? Or am I looking for them in the wrong place? TIA.
Related: what's the best tool to edit a GPX file and re-save? Can I do this in Google Maps or something?

This has been really pissing me off since you posted it. They had the opportunity to at least talk about it before the guy actually published it, and they've just totally ignored him. They've shut down the API completely so all those cool sites with Strava hacks on them no longer work, and decided not to release version 3 of the API. Wtf is going on the heads of the dev team? Surely this is not how developers who care about their work behave?
And strava premium is crap! You get hardly anything for your money, but instead of giving you stuff for your money they keep fucking about with frivolities like the appearance of your feed or changing the layout of the run report pages and then whining that they don't have time to fix their fucking privacy or not act like complete dicks over their API. Look how many of them there are! http://www.strava.com/about 26 (twenty-six) of them are devs!

I'm sorry Bothwell you clearly don't understand just how hard it is to do what they do- sitting there in your fancy office, doing whatever you do whilst they sweat away developing things.

Jesus, could they be any whiter?

It's ridiculous. Privacy is a Big Thing. Obviously this isn't exactly the leaking of people's bank details, but their shitty attitude towards it is what makes it significant - if they don't give a fuck about that, what else don't they give a fuck about, and what else are they going to be too busy to fix when somebody points it out to them?

And that's why you'll never be a developer Bothwell- you have no commercial focus!
Privacy doesn't make anyone any money- the Internet is all about giving shit away for free, including your privacy.

It's true, I'm a ham and a failure. I might as well just become a designer.
The thing is, they managed to get the privacy zone stuff right, so why fuck this up and then refuse to engage with somebody who points it out so they can fix it? All 26 of them (I COUNTED). It makes no sense unless they are all... well, a bunch of triathletes.

That's a bit harsh don't you think? Some people can't help their love of vests and tri shorts..

I've been enjoying number ten for the last six months - I highly recommend it to anyone.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to revive Strava for Rapha Rising at the end of this week....

ok a friend of mine is a developer at Strava. Guess I could ask, although I'm sure they have heard about it. Mind you, he's currently on holiday in France so doubt will get anything useful.
Looks like he might also be able to hook me up with Strava <-> MFP <-> Fitbit as someone else in the office was investigating it for personal use

I think I've figured out why they haven't got any time to sort out their API or their privacy.
