  • Spending a long time in Threshold is one way of training effectively, although I'd question those heart-rate-bands as definitions for the zones; Are those zones configurable or do they adapt or are they fixed and unscientific?

The only zone that is not configurable is Z6 - Tom Simspson < 0

  • As oldskoolracer says, Strava-ing one's commute is basically unacceptable :P

    damn

I'm trying to find a reasonable justification - it does keep me motivated when i'm lugging 6 kilos of laptop, suit and lock up and over hampstead hill that at least something (if not someone) is paying attention....

but no, it's mainly so that I can take the piss out of various mates for their slower commute...

Unless your commute is a proper ride no?

I genuinely use Strava to track my miles and make sure I spend more time on the bike. I like the idea of tracing my journeys week by week.

I find the competitive part alienating, since i'm not a competitive person. This KOM is probably the only one i'll ever 'achieve'.

My Garmin takes my inputted resting and max heartrate and does the rest.

It wont explain why my threshold training on the turbo seemed pretty useless when back on the bike. Science can GTFO >>>>>

    ORLY? Even long commutes?

  • I commute 20 miles per day, I record that- if I didn't that's 100 miles a week that would be missing from my records.

  • Mine is 18 each way. It's been a good way to track my path back to fitness. About 90% of my riding is the commute.

  • Will somebody please think of the missing records!

  • Commutes are boring! Even long ones. If you go to the same place each day and back again that's about as interesting for me as the job I had once doing data entry for train ticket refunds (don't ask) although to be honest even that had some variety :)

What could you possibly need these 'records' for?! Let it go...

I know for a fact I've done at least 60 miles since Monday morning and I haven't recorded any of it, mwah hah hah hah!

Same here. Well, it was the only KOM I really ever achieved (the other few were weird segments nobody else had ridden) for about two days :(

You're talking to Dammit here. He probably weighs the bike before and after each commute.

I need the records to stop me from lying to myself:
"oh you've done at least 120 miles this week, you may as well watch telly today"

  • I am the fastest hipster in town!
I was awarded this accolade completely by accident.
I was on a fairly random ride with Strava running in my pocket, some chap challenged me, I mashed and when I had a look at home later, low and behold:

  • ^^^ if your commute is 10 miles or more across London, there's no excuse for going the same way every day

  • Not even kidney punching Cube riders?

  • This Paddy Dunne guy is a fucking nutter. 56 hours on his bike this week, smashing it in the Battaglia in Montagna challenge. I remember him from the Rapha Festive 500 when he did the full 500km in one day in between working shifts. Bonkers.

  • Commutes are boring!

How comes you don't beat my Hackney Rd jump bike KOM then?

  • ^^^ if your commute is 10 miles or more across London, there's no excuse for going the same way every day

The only time I will ever vary is due to roadworks. Repetition is beautiful.

  • ^^^ 12000 miles in 250 rides - that's 50 miles a ride on average

  • 500mi a week. Fuck that

  • This commuting controversy is so boring: if you don't want to follow someone, don't follow them. My commute is two miles each way and I log it every day because I want to.

  • I'm watching, sparky, i'm watching

  • Do you prefer it when I take that back road behind the office, or when I go down to Buckingham Palace Road and loop back?

Gotta give the fans what they want.
