Sumo did it last week. It seems that everyone does it. You can't keep up a 35mph average for a whole 60mi ride...

It's a good way to find decent hills to ride, can't say I've ever gone out of my way to include flat segments on a ride.

Yeah he did do that didn't he :/
He went out of his way to take all my downhill KOM's in west london on his road bike. -

Dastardly and underhand, but also at the same time quite funny.

Is there no 20mph speed limit in West London?

It's fine, I know where he locks up his bikes at work :)

Lies! That was an accident! I was testing something Garmin related and happened to blast up that hill because there was a bus at the bottom and a wobbly couple on bikes and I didn't want to get stuck behind them. Honest Guv...
Seriously though I think it's a bit sad but then for the rides I normally put on Strava they're way too epic to even consider getting KOMs, obviously :P

Isn't the best thing about Strava that you get to see your 'mates' take your hard-earned KOMs? I think my mate Jared does it on purpose because he knows it winds me up.

I had this one for almost a year- now I cannot wait to get back to Winchester and hold 500 watts up the hill.
This is my KOM, Tim, MINE.

I see you are too afraid of other challengers that you've edited out the actual segment.

Just stumbled across this thread and thought I'd post a comedy convo i overheard the other night...
Sat on my toptube at the Waterloo Bridge "nodder crossing" (the cycle path bit that has its own, rather confusing to peds, set of lights) pointing Southbound. I then hear the unmistakable "di-dum" of a Garmin auto-pausing. Never gave it another thought until the following conversation...
Another random chap pulls up next to the Garmin wielder and says "Oh, I've been thinking about getting one of these, are they any good?" to which the Garmin botherer replies "Oh yeah, they're great - I upload all of my rides to this thing called Strava so you can keep track of everything. People also make segments, you see this here bridge is a segment and I'm like 20th fastest trollolol blah blah"
At which stage the lights change and the nodder horde proceeds to charge over Waterlooo Bridge, led by, you guessed it, the King of the Nodders himself on his hybrid steed of doom, hi-vis flapping in his wake.
Don't let Strava ruin your commute folks, it's not worth it ;-)

He might be fatter. You might not even need 500w.

Spending a long time in Threshold is one way of training effectively, although I'd question those heart-rate-bands as definitions for the zones; Are those zones configurable or do they adapt or are they fixed and unscientific?

As oldskoolracer says, Strava-ing one's commute is basically unacceptable :P
What's the view on going out on rides and specifically targeting segments? Considered dastardly and underhand, or completely acceptable?
