Having delved a bit further into his I think he's just an absolute beast.
It's a little hill sprint, I did it at 38.2km/h fixed (apparently 599w, though only for 39s) and he did it in 33s at 45.1km/h, which is also believable I think.
His longest ride is 426.4km, he rode from Berlin out past Hamburg in one 14hour go, and so far this year he has clocked more than 8,500km.
He can have this tiny hill.

It's really not that bad (as covered earlier in the thread). People just shouldn't expect anything even remotely accurate if they're using damn iphone/strava apps where the plotted course of a ride is wildly flying all over the place all the time.
If you're travelling at a fairly constant speed and you have your weight and your bikes weight put in correctly, AND use a decent GPS device you should be able to be fairly confident of a reliable estimate
You've never ridden with a power meter have you?

Someone just took my KOM with a power reading of 739W. Is he doping?
How long was it?

Some motherfucker took two (2!) of my course records over the weekend.
Tomorrow, I get one back, or die trying.

Nope. Would it make that much difference having a power meter though to justify the price, and are they infallible? (serious questions - I have no idea about power meters)

Looking at your other post, 739 "Strava watts" or even 739 actual watts doesn't seem impossible for 33 seconds. Sounds like he's won that one fair and square.

^^ Accurate to around 5%.
I've been on rides where strava's estimates have to have been over 200% the real figure for ten whole minutes.

They are far from infallible but they are far more accurate than Strava guesstimation.

I've been on rides where strava's estimates have to have been over 200% the real figure for ten whole minutes.I don't use it much now but there's vast differences between my power meter data and Strava's guesses. Strava is a ride logger on steroids, not a replacement for HRMs and power meters.

This site lets you see where you lost the time, by using a training partner.

There should be a word for the moment when you discover a KOM you didn't know you had: http://app.strava.com/segments/683563

Yeah - the word is stress - as I only found out because some fucker matched my time so it sent me an email! I had decided to give my knees a break this week and switch back to 42:16, but clearly switching back to 42:13 tomorrow and hitting whitehall kamikaze style flat out with a Viking helmet.

I've held that one (unknowingly) since the end of May- so I expect I'll lose it tomorrow.

• #1292
Stravoblivious?
-
• #1293
Haha, strava is a cruel mistress. Knowing youre on for a PB and seeing that crucial light change to red in front of you, finding out you've got a KOM just when you lose it, its bloody genius.

That segment is part of my favourite ride near Winchester: http://app.strava.com/rides/9443428# I'll be doing it on Saturday if anyone happens to be in the area

First I heard about one of mine was when I got an email telling me I'd lost it. Angered by the loss of something I'd not realised I previously owned, I reclaimed it the following day.
