I recently picked up a bottle of Mount Gay black label. Not good.
Been drinking it with Ginger Ale and it's barely passable. Forgot I had a bottle of Bacardi Ocho so busted that out and is a much more enjoyable experience.
Goslings seems to be my go-to standard these days. Cheap enough and quite the tasty Dark and Stormy.
Still not got round to picking up a bottle for best (that Ron Zacapa will most likely be it) -

Havana Club Ritual Cubano, picked up a bottle today in Carrefour Alicante, first time I'd seen it and a subsequent internet search revealed it was created for the Spanish market, intended to be mixed with Coke, Result - as thats my drink. Sweet and slightly spicy, and indeed very good with coke.
I paid €9.90 for a 70cl bottle.

Might pick up a bottle of Plantation Haitian XO from Gerry's in Soho, anyone had experience?
Or should I just pony up the extra for a 20yr bottle? My current rotation is Goslings (regular), or Havana Club 7. (With a bottle of Bacardi Ocho that I break out when I run out of the others)
Had Mount Gay black barrel but didn't not enjoy. -

I bought this https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/10895/plantation-barbados-5-year-old-signature-blend-rum at Christmas which was excellent, but I don't have experience of the 20YO one so I can't compare.

Didn’t know there was a rum thread. Bit late to the party; I think I brushed off a lot of spiced rum for years assuming it would be like Bacardi Spice, but I’ve become a bit partial to some of these. Also quite like a good traditional navy rum, but I’m yet to commit to a bottle of Pussers. Currently have: Kraken, Diplomatico, Sailor Jerry and Woods. Sailor Jerry was actually an experiment to see what the new recipe was like. Uh, yeah, it’s been that long...

Not a big fan of the new Sailor Jerry's recipe. Loved the old one

No, I don’t think I like it much either. I was wondering if a dash of vanilla Monin syrup would probably put it right.

Splitting a vanilla pod and chucking it in a bottle of average rum improves it greatly.

I think the short answer is yes, though it needed quite a lot of syrup!

Saw this in the Metro today, I keep meaning to try the Aldi own brand, it gets consistently good reviews

Ron Z 23 vs. Plantation?
I know I like Zacapa but I've never had any Plantation rums.

Which Plantation rum are you looking at? I tried the Panama rum recently and did like it but a bit on the sweet side. Would I choose to buy a bottle over a Zacapa 23? Not a chance.

I should just find a bar with both and do a side-by-side. That's how I normally do it. Just not normally drinking rum while out.

I had a few shots of this tonight, an ovenproof Jamaican rum similar to Wray & Nephew, too strong to drink straight but very good on a block of ice left to melt or with coke.

Don Q is the standard for Puerto Rican rum. If you can find Ron del Barrilito it's supposed to be good but I have never tasted it.
