Ah I didn't see the rail replacement bus situation. Fail.

Have you checked fares and bike carriage rules? Is it worth booking in advance or is GS the way to go?

We'll pass very close to Peterborough on the way out (Whittlesea) so anybody wanting to take a shorter version of the route could split off at that point.
It's 20 flat miles back to Peterborough from Moulton. I imagine that'll feel ok after a couple of jars by a big windmill.
Yeah, that profile graph makes for positive thoughts about rolling onto Peterborough!

I like to book in advance, less to worry about on the day... I was thinking of booking maybe the 22:00 or 22:50 back from Peterborough, but being a student I don't have to get up on Monday morning ;-)

We need to book cycle space if we travel with East Coast but not if we take First Capital Connect.
My plan is GS back on FCC - will give us timing flexibility as we won't be tied to one train.

Presumably, there'll be a reason to stay in Moulton for a while? I mean at the grand opening or a good pub. I don't like racing for the train just after I've got to my destination. :) It always makes it feel as if there was no point getting there.
-
• #83
^absolutely - there should still be plenty going on (depending on when we arrive) and I have absolutely no intention of dashing off anywhere until we've had a couple of drinks over the road. I'll try to get a tour of the mill sorted out too if there's any interest.

• #84
I'm really tempted by this one but I'm scared you will be all super duper fast...
-
• #85
no way! sign up!
We'll ride at a comfortable pace to suit everybody - so if the pace feels too much at any point please speak up. It's not a race or a training session, it's all about some sociable comfortable miles and riding as a bunch from start to finish.

I fully intend to loiter in Moulton :-) preferably with a pint in hand. But obviously I'll leave planning decisions to Upstart.

^^Beat me to it!
Do come along lolabelle - the pace will be whatever it needs to be to get everybody there comfortably. If you're happy riding 50 miles you'll find this no harder as it's seriously flat.

I did 70-80 miles fixed on a few occasions but I think for this one I would take gears "just in case". On the other hand it would be awesome to finally break fixed century... dilemma!
-
• #93
Fixed! It's more fun than gears anyway.
-
• #94
No, don't bother, it'll be fast, I mean really fast, c'mon look at the list, Lance Armstrong would be scared to add his name to that. The only way gears would help would be if they are on a motorbike. Forget about it.

Go for it! I have only done 2 centuries, including Bournemouth, this looks a lot easier than that, only half the climbing :-)

I'm coming. Just had a phone call, Rapha want's to sponsor me. Would be rude to say no.

Shit! I think you are right! Damn it :-/
Hairnetic I've just had a look for you and it looks like there's a train from Spalding at 7am (check the Trainline), but you won't get into Kings X until 830 which is too late for the start BUT I reckon if the train stops at Alexander Palace or New South Gate, you could alight earlier and then take the little 6 mile ride over to the North London pickup and probably make it in time as the group passes by.
