I've been really looking forward to this for ages, and brought my bike up to my parents' house to get some miles in and everything. But in doing so I think I've uncovered a problem that may cause me to have to wet the bed on this.
There's something wrong either with my riding position (or more likely) with my body, which meant that after a 56-mile ride today my back was in serious pain, and it still doesn't feel right now. In the wake of the nasty spasm/twist/feeling like I was permanently gnarled thing I had a few months back I think it would be best to hold off 50 mile + rides until I've got to the bottom of it.
Even the wind and rain wouldn't have put me off, I've been out in that all week. I'm not completely out yet, but 90%.:(
I'm no doctor but don't mess with backs.

+1. Unlike lungs and personalities, you only have one back.

don't normally wet the bed, but unless the weather forecast changes I'm out. I don't think I would. get much pleasure out in all that wind & rain

Really really want the weather to shape up.

Well, the weather is moving through slightly quicker than forecast but it's still heavy rain and strong north easterlies for most of sunday. The Met Office warning is still in force for the day.
I guess this will put most people off - not exactly champagne riding conditions! However, if anybody still fancies it, I'll happily lead out. Probably won't bother if I'm going to be on my own though, crap weather is always worse without company!
Let me know your thoughts

Depends if I get work done today and stop procrastinating, if so I'm on board regardless of the weather :)

Met office says light rain, South-Easterly 10mph, That's not too bad right?
-
• #189
hmmmm in hopelessly optimistic mode it does look as though it may start off showery but brighten up later in the day. I was going to take advantage of the flat profile to go singlespeed on 82gi but if its a brutal northerly wind that'll be torture (and I dont have any other chainring options at present).
So will probably take gears but i'm afraid I don't have any mudguards, so guess I'll loiter at the back, happy to do some shifts in the wind if you lot are waterproofed up to the eyeballs and don't mind the spray. Sorry bit rubbish but thems the breaks.
If its showering I can live with that, but ifs utterly pelting I shall be not be coming out from under the duvet. Will be up early though so will assess weather 1st thing and post on here. Fingers crossed its not that bad as I've been looking forward to this.

Luckily like close to Clerkenwell so will be up early assessing weather too...

Short of downpour first thing I'll make it to the start... if it gets too grim I might bail half way, let's see :-)
-
• #192
I don't give a rat's ass about rain, but my bike is fixed only so if it's ridiculously windy I might struggle. I do have a mudguard but it only guards approx half the muds so beware of soggy misery if you end up behind me. Not that anybody can hope to be dry anyway, I suppose.
I haven't bedwet yet! YET.

out today for the "lcc big ride" and got waterlogged feet. I think that's the final nail for me.
Let the bedwetting continue...

^you don't want trench foot!
Right, I'll be leaving home about 7 to get to Clerkenwell on time. The weather will probably be at its worst then, so will see who else makes it to the Windmill.

... of course i might wake up early and change my mind. If so, I'll be waiting for yous lot up in Ponders End

I'm gonna make a call this evening based on the forecast then. I don't care about rain but 50mph winds or flood warnings will mean me out
-
• #198
I think upstart jinxed this ride from the start by calling it "Windy Millers"
If only he'd called it "Misty Millers" or "Sunshine with Light Showers Millers" we'd all have been fine
Thank god he didn't call it "Huge Earthquakes and Avalanches with Driving Sleet and Hail Millers"
-
• #199
Well, he didn't call it 'Stormy Millers'.
It still looks stormy tomorrow.
I'd definitely be up for doing it on Monday instead, although we would of course miss the mill ceremony. :(

And also a full day of work.
Although that's not necessarily a bad thing, of course.

I have been juggling like fury, in the hope of getting along on Sunday, but urgent visit to parents must take priority.
You are being led by an absolute gentlemen, so enjoy a superb ride out, and take care of each other.
