I haven't had a lot of luck finding cafés that are a) on the route and b) open on a sunday.
We go through quite a few small towns / big villages so we can always stop for cake if we see any.
Long range weather suggest that this lovely alternating sun / hail / sun pattern is likely to continue. Unless things get totally apocalyptic I'll be sucking it up and the ride will happen regardless.
Roll on sunday!

Make sure you put a few locks in your shoulder bag, too, Ian. You never know. :)

I went out in the rain with sealskins at the weekend and they basically just collected All The Water and held it inside so my feet were inside this horrible pond for miles. I took them off and the water poured out like they were jugs.

^Interesting... will probs chuck a spare pair (of normal socks) in the saddle bag then

I have wondered that about waterproof socks. In my experience overshoes are not to keep my feet dry but to keep them warm once they are wet. Water runs down the leg and in the top no matter how good the seal is, surely the same happens with waterproof socks, but do they stay warm too?

I wish I could come on this but have a day of quality family time planned.
The route goes through my parents village (mile 66). Look out for the HILARIOUS mountain rescue signs...

but do they stay warm too?
Depends on how warm the rain that leaks into them is :(
-
• #148
Well it's sort of how a wetsuit works. The trapped layer of water is warmed up to body temperature and the membrane insulates that from the cold and wind, resulting in wet but warm feet. Tho taking wet shoes and socks off after 100 miles you'll be glad that feet and noses are located at opposite ends of the body.

Quite a few cafes, coffee shops and pubs in St Ives. Had hoped to join you for a few miles in the Hunts. area but have been stricken with the shingles. Not pleasant I can tell you.
