    need to depart stratford upon avon 0800hrs ... first beer in london around 1600hrs

  • Looks very tasty. Will keep an eye out and hope to confirm participation nearer the time.

  • Would love to do this but sadly no geared bike...

  • it's a great route, very scenic and nice roads for riding.
    i'm still a bit traumatised after seeing a chorus 11 mech disintegrate so will join again as part of my recovery.

    in.

  • I tend to ride as far as Bicester in that direction - what's the first part of the ride like, from Stratford-upon-Avon-lady?

  • I would like to join you for this if its open? I will meet you in Stratford from Birmingham.

  • @hippy stratford to bicester is glorious.. littered with civil war history, country estates, ridgeback roads and beautiful villages.. happy to have you lead us back from bicester

    Al

  • what's the first part of the ride like, from Stratford-upon-Avon-lady?

    Its a decent ride, in that its got some rolling hills, and then opens up into the Cotswolds, which is stunning.

  • ladyboys only hippy, you'll fit in well

  • I'll be deep into TT training by then. I'll wave as I head the other way..

  • I'm planning on doing a 400k ride the weekend before this, so in *theory *a ride less than half that distance should be a breeze. In reality of course I may never want to get on a bike again, but hopefully not!

    This aside I'm very up for this - I'm a Warwickshire lad and grew up in Bishops Tachbrook (just south of Leamington). It's also just north of Wellesbourne (on your route), so I'd probably go up the night before, stay over and meet you there to avoid the early rising.

    I can tell you my Edge Hill ghost story ;)

    i still have the rear mech.. hanger snapped, both jockey wheels chewed up, luckily the carbon frame escaped serious damage, and rear wheel spokes were still intact, if a little scratched.

    rolling along from monks risboro with a very slack chain to the train station wasn't fun.. need to get mech to the bike whisperer.. hopefully salvagable.

    luckily we bought return tickets for an extra £1 that day.

    i first climbed knowle hill in 2007 on a 8 speed steel framed road bike.. fuck it was hard.. but the lane from edge hill (prior to sunrising hill past upton house) towards epwell, swalcliffe, tadmarton is my favourite ever..

    only section of this ride i don't like is B4100 aynho to bicester, very fast traffic

  • sonnet for the forum

    Velocio! thou shouldst be living at this hour:
    London hath need of thee: she is fen
    Of stagnant highways; and the filth of addison lee
    Brixton Cycles, the heroic wealth of wheel and chain
    daren'st forfeit their ancient english dower
    of inward happiness: we is selfish men
    Oh! raise us up, return to us again;
    and give us manners, virtue, freedom
    and power of the lanes;
    Thy soul was like a Star, and dwelt apart;
    Thou hadst a voice whose sound was like
    a battalion 10,000 strong whilst
    the fake king that resides on shores of southwark
    who holds his manhood cheap, will surely lose his crown
    we happy few, pure as the naked heavens, majestic and free,
    so didst thou travel on life's common way
    In cheerful godliness; and yet thy heart
    The lowiest duties on herself did lay
    in front of griffin's gimp hole yesterday

  • Love it. Beautiful Al.

  • ollie,

    will you join our band of brothers 'cross the cotswolds and chilterns this merry hour..

  • only section of this ride i don't like is B4100 aynho to bicester, very fast traffic

    had a look at your route, the b4100 could be avoided if one went to the east of banbury by going straight on at kineton (warmington to cropredy), down to brackley (via the back way out of middleton), then through the quiet villages to the west and south of buckingham, and again turning the eastern side of aylesbury.

    perhaps i should just stfu and look at what a great ride it is you've planned eh?!

  • hah!! warmington to cropedy does miss out my fav bit of the ride, ridge road after edge hill (nr upton house) down to sibford gower.. could we turn left after aynho, i don't mind missing bicester ring road either, as long as we reach princes / monks risboro to tackle whyteleaf.. perhaps you could help out on that stretch rive gauche..

    also i may have to move date to sunday, as i have quite afew olympic commitments now..
