  • Free wheels give you the option to rest, thus not making you use the gears you have in your legs as much.

Also I still don't understand why anyone even mentions anything but fixed gear / single speed bikes on this forum?! I was not aware that had joined a cycling BS forum at any point.

This is the LFGSS HHSB thread and I'll put rotors on any English threaded track frame I choose! Wrong thread and the wrong forum on both counts...

While fixed is fun it is also very limiting.

Like comparing a salt flat racer to a family car.

A single gear is not long enough. Either you top out prematurely or can't get the fucker going. (Maybe fine for the urban warrior with gears in his legs)

Until some bright spark makes a variable fixed transmission of course.

Even then, a free hub and brakes will still
allow more variation. (Downhilling at 70 mph for example)

    HTFU/CSB etc

  • miss this set up, deffo need to get that frame repaired

Still reckon if we started a "help the rat fund" you'd get enough to fix it pretty quick, it really is a forum fav.

Anyone know how to set up a paypal or other account so that all contributors can see how close we get to total needed and see where their money is going?

  • Yeah well but shut up though sadr. Make your tragic departure count by actually staying the fuck out o this topic. Go collect all the pictures on the internet of bikes that have a rack fitted and put them in the functional bikes thread or something if you so desperately need something to fill your empty days with.

I presume the salt flat racer is the fixed gear bike... if not this seems strange.

For some people it's the other way around. I felt limited by free wheel bikes up until I got on a fixed gear. To me fixed feels correct. I understand that it does not fit well with most... that is why I'm a member of this forum.

There should be no debate about this here.

Most people only use 3 gears on their geared bikes anyway, the others are just to get to those 2 extremes and the middle gear.

  • Yeah, fixed would be the flat racer.

Fair do's I just think cycling has moved on from categories.

Bit like skiing, twin tips are just as good as a shredding on a board.

Most on here think a plastic BMC roadie is just as good as a vintage track nag pursuit.

That's the vibe I get anyways.

  • Bit like skiing, twin tips are just as good as a shredding on a board.

    I am dissapoint.

  • You're right. Skis are so much better.

  • the downtube on the first one is just too much.

  • enough to eat your dinner off.

  • Pretty much identical builds...

  • same owner, he changed the frame.
I avoided the word 'upgraded' on purpose.

  • miss this set up, deffo need to get that frame repaired

    So ace

  • Bonor, it was my favourite track bike ever, please fix it and leave the scorch marks

  • Right, fuck it. I've had a bike fit and my Mash is too low for me.

I'm going to get a custom Ingria Airpusher.

Anyone want to tell me this is a rubbish idea?

  • Take up yoga > get flexible > htfu = save £££s

    1. Do ingria even do custom? it seems it's just square st and tt geometry with 76degress on both and 45mm rake forks

    2. It's an amazing idea, they amount to about £400 which for a frame that is apparently quite good, if weights are accurate and tubes are stiff

    what colour?

I wish it was that simple! Apparently it's central nervous system bullshit, which is trickier to fix. Plus, saving money is for idiots.

I haven't seen any geometry charts, but I've emailed them asking if they do custom builds. I might be able to get away with it, depending on tt length / headtube height.

Yeah, it seems pretty cheap for what it is. I'm not too fussed about weight (my mash is pretty tubby at 7.4kg) but I like alu.

    Black. Obviously.

  • fair enough, i was looking at getting one and when i emailed them to see a geometry chart i got this:

    Technical charts:
Wheel base: 95sm, if fork rake 4.5sm,
    Head tube angle 76'.
    Seat tube angle 76'.
    BB bsa.
    Seat stay 27,2, fork 1,1/8"

not sure whether they didn't understand what i wanted or they just don't use them, if they do give you a geo chart could you send it my way, still might get one but at the moment there's just too many unkowns to be dropping that sort of cash for me.

  • Fair, I might see if I can find a Russian speaker to help me out.

  • oh and whilst we're on the topic, PINK:

  • fuck yes

  • Most people only use 3 gears on their geared bikes anyway, the others are just to get to those 2 extremes and the middle gear.

no no no. there is a perfect gear for every situation! :D

This is the whole point of running a casette to get maximum efficiency at a varying scale of resistance. I very rarely use the top and the bottom gear but spend a lot of time in all kinds of variations front and back to achieve balance and that is the beauty of it. It's apples and pears for sure

There is a gear for every situation... if you know how to read which situation you are in. Which only a small percentage of people know how to read in reality.

A tool is an extension of your body, effective if you know how to use it right and useless if you don't. Riding fixed gives you no other option but to use it correctly.

I've ridden all types of bikes and I'll never go back to regular bikes. Never!!!! :)
