What Seabase does is indeed very hard and requires a lot of strength and tenacity, but i can't help but find it too pointless (as opposed to the regular pointlessness of doing it on a road bike). Something like doing a transatlantic on a pedal boat. But it is definitely possible, although too hard for most people.
the thing is, that it seems stupid or pointless, but these are the things in your life which you will never forget. doing the stelvio with a road bike is not that easy, but always possible. doing it fixed, is so different and a real journey.
i will never forget my trip to barcelona, especially all the hills and the pyrenees -

i had one 2 years ago and while i was building it up i realised that you need at least a 113mm bb, as the guys from fuji made a construction failure. so i sold it.

I wanted to post that but decided not to because I don't like it. Needs risers and a black marker to colour in the braking surface on the spok. The frame is awesome though.

Obviously for the challenge and the satisfaction, with that mentality do you not begin to question riding down cliffs on snowboards, racing hills on luges, doing back flips on motorbikes....?
Well, I'm not saying that doing something difficult or dangerous is pointless nor stupid. Let me try to get my point straight. Riding the Stelvio on a road bike is already difficult. Doing it on a fixed-gear bike (like Seabase) is a lot more difficult. The problem is that the whole added difficulty lies in using a bike that is not adapted to the task. I admire people doing difficult things, but voluntarily making things more challenging by not using the most adapted tool is what I find a bit pointless. I've never seen anyone jumping cliffs on a slalom snowboard, or doing backflips on a Honda Goldwing, although both would be exceedingly difficult and require lots of dedication. Saying that, I don't mean to disrespect Seabase's achievements or any of yours, in the end, as you and andyp said, it's the personal satisfaction that counts.
Sorry for the interruption,

He autosoled an Aerospoke and got a Velocity rim as the result, how badass is that.

^ the only bit that makes sense.
Riding long climbs fixed is fantastic. And if you know the gradient and your own body there is no reason a fixed geared bike can't climb well.

Yeah, I heard about this, but figured I'd just use what BB and cranks it came with till I worked something out.
Someone suggested getting the stay crimped, but I'd be wary of doing that with alu.
Think I'd rather a 2012 model, but the stupid f*#kers at Evans Cycles who are now the sole distributers of Fuji here in the UK don't even know IF, never mind when they'll get any in!
