You sure they're 44? Tifosi make some with 35mm rake
-
• #15003
(which like the alpinas are often hidden buy paint on alot of framesets. e.g. MASH and ONO)
-
• #15004
you may be right..
Garas are shipped with (I think) painted Alpinas
and have virtually horizontal toptubes...
-
• #15005
Yeah those are alpinas. I though the bro-pro element of your frame was due to the massive seatpost?

want

Apollo, I doubt very much that you'd notice any difference to TT slope even if the 30mm forks were same length as current ones.
The handling would actually be less twitchy, bit slower.
Obviously you would get tighter overlap, but I gather for you tighter is better, no?

it is, partly. but rake affects toptube as well no?
was trying to figure this out with 1000AA too, do other Garas barspin? mine does. should it? or is that because of the aftermarket fork?

also note slightly tighter front clearance with alpinas....

• #15010
I'm all about the tight clearances right now. This is my 2013 project.

Fork rake don't affect TT!
Fork length might, would also change HT angle slightly too, but NOT rake!Alright, it does, but we're talking less than 5mm TT slope here for maybe 50mm extra rake*.
- at same fork length...
Meh.

agreed^ just exploring options...because work is frustrating and bikes are fun.

dat saddle.
would probably look decent on the Plum.

I haven't dared let myself use bike cad...
I'm OCD enough as it is on tiny tech details, I'd end up blacking out the windows, thinking Cinelli are trying to steal my designs, and eating the neighbours cats...

Angel you're in the wrong thread for that kind of talk.
Short rake = tight clearance, twitchy steering and easy nose wheelies.
(twitchy at slow speeds and steady at high speeds.)
apollo, i think it would look pretty nice with some alpinas if those really are 44m rake. I thought they were the standard 35 tifosis.

what's the most reliable method to measure rake?
would it be stamped on the fork anywhere?

thanks right, holdfasts on a pursuit bike -
• #15020
USA track team use holdfasts don't they?
-
• #15021
And the German ladies, well she had some form of holdfast looking footstrap the other weekend.
Correct me if I'm wrong here ladies....

Hey Apollo, if it helps, I've had tifosi, leader s805 and alpinas. Pretty certain they are 35, 44 and 30mm respectively although tifosi do make it pretty hard find out their rake ont interweb.
Mdcc has made several comments on the subject of handling and rake. Shortening the rake apparently reduces twitchiness due to the more dominant impact it has on trail. However, such differences are said to be minimal.
I think you can also tell by eye - with my leaders it's very obvious they're a 44. The tifosi on your gara 'look' like 35s. I don't think you'll notice much difference in aesthetics or handling if you went to alpinas. They're pretty easy to pick up 2nd hand if you want to check them out without splashing out.

Apollo, get a meter long straight edge (broom handle, piece of wood, long metal ruler...), stick it so its center of the top and bottom of the headset, and (second pair of hands helpful) measure distance from straight edge to axle.
It should at least get you in the same ball park as either 35mm or 44mm.

hipsters!
Is that fork really 44mm rake? I always thought it was pretty flat.
