He wants it insured, not reinsured.

How easy is the srm to remove? Just chuck it in a safe when not using it
-
• #706
Very easy, but still a pain if you see what I mean- would you swap chainring spiders for each ride?
-
• #707
Probably yes. But I change wheels/sprockets quite alot depending on what riding I'm doing. And last year used to being my track wheels, bars and different chain to Herne hill and swap them there.

Why not buy a giant safe that you can keep the bike in?
-
• #709
That would cost £000's
-
• #710
sell the bike to buy the safe
-
• #711
i see no flaw in that logic
-
• #712
What does the policy wording say? This sounds like a complete bag of nonsense to insure your bike against the value of a supersix evo di2
-
• #713
I've not got it here, so can only repeat what the chap on the phone said:
"If the bike is no longer in production then we would take the value from the current equivalent model"
Which would be the Evo Di2, unless you can spot something else in the range that is a closer match?

So how would one insure a vintage steel Merck with nuovo-record? Against the value of an emx-7 with super-record EPS?
Would they insure a Picasso against the value of a Damien Hirst?
Tell the bloke on the phone he's a fucking idiot

Are you implying this oft discussed weight weenie project has attained the status of a work of art?
-
• #716
I've asked Edwardes to provide me with a quote for the insurance company.
I suspect that the Merckz would be uninsurable, or rather not insurable for a reasonable premium.

No, I was just highlighting the 'apples n oranges' nature of the discussion
-

Insurance is for bedwetters.
-
• #719
You'd have to actually take the bike out the house to stand a decent chance of getting it knicked, anyway.
-
• #720
Good job I never do that then.
-
• #721
Have a cheaper bike?
-
• #722
Good job I never do that then.
True since I learned tonight it's chained to the turbo...
The shame- such nice weather for riding

SRM is back and calibrated:
Slope has drifted from 19.5 Hz/Nm to 19.61 Hz/Nm after being uninstalled, sent to Scientific Coaching, sent back (shockingly badly) and then reinstalled.
On that note, the Norbar TT100 is a lovely tool to use.

When I had insomnia I used to read Beatrice and Sidney Webb's 'Soviet Communism: A New Civilization?' A few paragraphs of them banging on about how great Socialism was (despite them touring the Ukraine during the state enforced famine) would normally be enough to send me off.
Now I just click on this thread.
