  • You rang?

  • B&D power files are recommended for DIY use on a welding forum I'm on. I need to get myself one. Really good for those tight corners.

  • We use the B&D one a lot at work. Really useful for all those jobs where the grinder is a bit too awkward.
Make sure you get plenty of belts though as they get chewed up/go bald pretty quickly..

  • Mostly finished the hard bit, just a few braze-ons to add for some cable routing.

For those following the brazing with practical interest, I upped to a 13 gauge nozzle, and found I could get the chunky bits of headtube and BB shell heated without to much issue. My first go at fillet brazing since school! Not that pretty but seems fairly substantial.

  • You should try to get the fillets as smooth as possible for mechanical purposes, too - the little pits and valleys act as stress-raisers; cracks are more likely to start in them or propagate along them.

My brazing is far messier, though, so I'm one to talk...

  • Awesome.

    Any thoughts on colours yet?

  • make it brown, with glitter in it :p

  • Lae, it is fairly smooth and pit-free, just a little lumpy. It's hard to get a file round where 3 different sized tubes meet. Time for the mini-drill and some small grinding stones!

I was thinking of a brown. My daughter is quite adamant it should be red (I have already denied her pink). I might go for rattle-can black initially, for the Tweed Run, to match my wife's bike, then maybe a nice powder coat.

  • two tones paint.

  • brown to pink fade ftw...

    not a euph

  • Brown to pink?

    It'll look like Chewbacca's length!

  • Or this guy's.

  • I'd seen that before, but quite so, er, large.

Quite eye watering. I'm just mightily impressed with the person who realised it was far more important to take photos than to try to help.

  • Someone else was suggesting more this:

  • I'm starting to go off the whole idea.

  • Some braze-ons for cables, mudguard eyes and rack mounts are on. Primed and rattle canned matt black. Will get powder coated sometime later:

Just need to find my BB tool, and get cracking now.
There is oodles and oodles of clearance in the back, so an upgrade to a 26" rear will be fine, but I'll see how it rides like this for while.

The Brooks B33 was a prize from the Stockholm 'Ride In Tweed' last year for bringing a bicycle the furthest for the ride. I thought it right for May's Tweed Run. Planning something a little less full on for regular commuting, but it might turn out to be too super comfy.

    More to follow...

  • Looking amazing.

  • +1

    love this project

  • Love it, looking forward to seeing the finished product!

  • Looks great, it's come on a long way. Not sure about the saddle, looks like it could be a bit of a gonad trap...

  • looks really good, Alfine is a nice touch

  • superb! looks like it would be a laugh in the woods as well.

  • Ace.

  • Incredible.

  • That picture is most confusing. My wife briefly thought it was a trike due to the mirror.

How do you plan to tension the chain between the front and rear cranks? I vaguely remember a plan to use a clamp on bb higher up on the rear seat tube.

Looks ace btw, I want one for my little girl. Velorution have one of these in their closing down sale which was tempting (but still too pricey)
