I am totally OK with being excluded from this because it sounds fucking lame.

Maybe they've already got enough ladies signed up to make it 50:50?
Lets see what they have to say for themselves...lets not assume the worst.
My GF is volunteering for opening and closing ceremonies. She says men are in short supply and they want to keep it 50/50 as you say.
I'm not arsed personally.
Plus I have the upper body of a 12 year old.

Lol what a load of bollocks! The economy is in ruins and the forecast is grim; and look what they are blowing money on; costumes and ceremonies for fairies.
Tbh if the government hadn't fucked me in the ass so hard for the past few years with the taxman, I wouldn't really mind.

Stop moaning. Enjoy the party and the best city in the world.
-

The olympics is like one huge good natured party for the duration it is in your city.
Its happening no matter what...might as well get stuck in and enjoy the carnival atmosphere rather than bitching about it. Tickets or no tickets.
Anyway, everybody knows the world cup is where its at. See you in Brazil!

Fairies?
Gay people, Will...

Sorry, but seeing "male only" with no explanation is worth getting your dander up for.
but you girlies don't have danders to get up in the first place. maybe that's why they don't want you in their show, participants need a dander and knackers.
(OLC - redefining danders since 1984)

As to why there are a shortage of male volunteers...
I didn't offer my services because I know olympic opening ceremonies normally involve dancing (or riding) around dressed in a costume and that isn't for me.
Given those budgie smugglers that your wore to the KingsArms, this surprises me....

I wore them for you and thought you didn't notice :(

...I did

If I remember correctly your initial response was to literally rip your shirt off! Hatbeard and Laner saw it too so you can't deny it...

maybe there are loads of blokes out there who like to be dressed up and choreographed.

Do you feel this offended by all the women-only events that get organised?
Not the same thing AT ALL.
or theyve filled their female quota?
Certainly possible!
Have you considered the possibility that, for whatever reason, it's because they aren't applicable?
It's for a *choreographed *part of the ceremonies, it's not a prize. Think of it like a play, you wouldn't be outraged if only men were cast for a production of 12 angry men would you?
I'm assuming, not unreasonably I think, that it's some artistic choice, and not just because there's some strength involved.
Not the POINT at all. If this were a play, and drawing a parallel to 12 angry men is exemplar there, what would be the point, to showcase the male contribution to a sport without also mentioning the female contribution? You guys do realize that this is just some questions raised about a strange little request for "male only" representatives of a sport that is already recognized as being male-dominated, with work being done to redress that.
But as others have noted we don't have the reason behind that. I'll await further info from the horse itself.

I don't think anybody is disputing the right to question what could possibly be a dubious situation.
It was the fact that some people seem to have assumed the worst that caused annoyance. There is nothing wrong with asking for men only without mentioning the women if they've already got enough women!
Anyway, we've had two people confirm that indeed their have been many more female volunteers overall. Hopefully somebody who was offended has contacted them to confirm whether this is indeed the situation in this case.
For the record, from my dealings with Olympic recruitment, they are going to great lengths to make sure everybody is fairly represented. Almost to the point of positive discrimination in my opinion. I'd be extremely surprised if there was no valid justification for their male only request.

I think it is really sad that there aren't more female cyclists although there seem to be be a greater ratio of female cyclists on the road than female cyclists on the forum. I do not know the reason for this.

Have you ever been on the forum?

A conversation I've had with many female forumengers and that I'd love to have with you too. Prob best offline though.
Everybody seems to have their own opinions. Having that conversation with some of the Mule Bar Girls was particularly interesting.

I'm a bit of a boring bastard though so maybe there are loads of blokes out there who like to be dressed up and choreographed.
